Tricks for Beginners.

Traffic Chip - Brass
£23.95 from ://www.emagictricks.co.uk

The Effect.
You tell the spectator that you have a special Poker Chip that changes colour just like a Traffic light. You show them the Red chip, and tell them that it is currently on “Stop”.

You move the chip from one hand to the other and show it has changed to Wait/Yellow. Ok, no big deal so far, it must be red on one side and yellow on the other side, right?

No.

You tell the spectator that they have to do the next bit. You ask them to open their hand palm up and then you place the chip in the open hand and close their fingers over it. After showing that your hands are empty you tell them that when they are ready to do some magic, they should say “Go” – and look in their hand.

Sure enough both sides have changed to a nice sparkly green. (As greens go, this really is nice and sparkly).

At this point the spectator is free to examine the chip.

The next phase involves the use of a coin. Ideally this would be a half dollar, but a £2 coin works reasonably well, and at a stretch a 50p will do.

You place the half dollar and the chip in your open hand, and then close your fingers around them. You now tell them that you are going to test their observance. You delve into your closed hand and pick out the chip, placing it in your top pocket. You ask what they think is left, to which they reply “the coin”.

Which is actually quite correct. You tell them they are doing really well.

You take the chip out of your top pocket and place it in your open hand next to the coin. Again you close your fingers around them, and again ask them to watch closely.

You delve into the hand and this time you take out the coin, placing it in your top pocket. After asking what remains they will tell you just the chip, but when you open your hand you show that the chip and the coin are both still there.

You ask them to play closer attention, close your fingers again and this time remove just the chip and drop it into your pocket. You ask them what they now think is left, and they will say just the coin.

This time you can open your hand to show nothing there at all.

Tada!

Difficulty. 2/5
1=A well trained white rabbit could do it, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

Fairly easy. Maybe a couple of really minor sleights, so that could bump it to a 2.5 but nothing too difficult.

Review.
This is another very good looking brass chip trick, similar in many ways to “Colour Deception”, however, although it is slightly more difficult to perform than Colour Deception there is quite a lot more to it.

It comes in it's own little black box.

Rating.
Effect/item: 8/10, Quality of goods: 9/10, Value for money: 8/10

Overrall.
This is really two tricks in one, the colour change and the coin vanish. So from this point of view it is pretty good value for money. The chip is really well made, and does hold up to be totally examinable at the end (and mid way through) the trick.

It is small enough to carry around and requires a very simple/quick reset.

Personally I found that It works better with a half dollar than with any other coin, but I think for performing in England I would still choose to use a £2 coin.

The Bottom Line.
I’m glad I have this and it makes a nice change to the Colour Deception, but I don’t think that I would perform both to the same set of people (certainly not in the same sitting) as they are too similar.

In saying that if I was asked to choose one over the other I would be hard pushed to, as I like performing them both. The Colour Deception when my brain is a bit dead, and the Traffic chip when I have a bit more time.
