Psychokinetic Bolt with Luxury Case

Postby jabba01 » May 22nd, '03, 13:03

Effect
A nut and bolt is examined.
It is placed on the your closeup mat (case).
Under your control, the nut and bolt can be made to thread or unthread - your choice!
Whilst this happens, you are stood back, perfectly still, mearly concentrating on the Nut & Bolt. You couldn't have done a thing!!

Remember - you are not touching anything and do not have to be close to the case or bolt.
No strings, no springs, no rubber bands, no wires or pulls - Nut & Bolt is completely examinable!

Review

Very expensive at almost £100. However i was intrigued and required a case for my tricks/ accessories etc.

Unfortunately the mechanism for this is not silent, and therefore makes this less of an illusion/trick and more of a novelty. I would therefore suggest that whilst interesting it cannot be used in any close up work which is what I was hoping for.

I give it 5/10 as an illusion, 8/10 as a novelty, 3/10 value for money.

Psychokinetic Bolt with Luxury Case

I must say that I was a bit disappointed with this effect. I was hoping to use it as a Close Up trick, but as has already been said it is very noisy in operation. Also the speed the nut undoes itself is very fast. I imagines it would be quite slow and mystical.
Beautifully made, very expensive, but not quite what I expected

Hi joliz and welcome to the Forum! Your comments are spot on about this piece of kit and there are one or two other threads of comments from last year about it. A lot of money but not exactly worth it.

We look forward to hearing more from you soon!

PK bolt

I quite like this effect.

The main problem I had with this was not the noise - maybe I have a particularly quiet version but I find that the sound of the bolt unscrewing covers up anything else. My main worry was the activation method which after a couple of repeats became a tad obvious.

I solved this by a trip to the Discovery Store where I bought the cheapest toy of a certain kind I could find, in this case a Yellow Submarine, which I then dismantled for various useful bits. With a couple of touches of a soldiering iron and by employing an assistant I can now stand there focussing the magic powers through my hands whilst the spectator has no idea what is going on!

I hope I'm not contravening any rules by this contribution.

Ben I think you are missing something here. The two effects are totally different and are designed for different types of magicians.

The Psychokinetic Bolt is designed for a working professional magician, who would probably use it more in a stage/parlour environment.

I like Martin's idea for adaption, but then at that price you would think something like that would have been designed in already. Maybe Martin should write them a letter and a PK Bolt MarkII could be created.

I kind of agree. When I forked out for this in the first place I was half expecting the activation mechanism to be pretty much as I've got it now. I was a little disappointed when it arrived to find the activation mechanism was more obvious. Currently, I'm only using my add on to trigger the existing activation method and can still use the original method if needs be. One could envisage a completely different activation method that strips out a lot of the existing kit and could be cheaper to produce. (My add-on cost me eight quid). I might just craft an e-mail for a mark 2 version as you suggest and see what happens.

Has anyone found a way to muffle the motor?

Postby ScottLeavitt » Jul 30th, '04, 22:50

Just picked up, and I'm disappointed by the "humming" as well -- has anyone found a way to muffle without elimating the impact on the nut/bolt?

One approach I saw Craig Dixon take last week was to cover the nut/bolt with a coffee mug and move his finger around the top (same way you get a wine glass to ring). Blames the humming sound on the "ringing of the mug" and the sound of the nut/bolt hitting across the side of the mug also hides the hum to some degree.....

has to be a better way.....

I actually like that idea. I don't have the effect in question, but if I did I think this would be the perfect way to disguise the chatter. Maybe not "go go go", but you could definietly have some sort of magic mantra that you get the specs to chant - make them believe that they are doing it themselves collectively...

nice one MagicDiscoMan...
