Review

This set is available from magicbox.co.uk and is excellent, both in construction quality and value for money. The boxes are a plain brass finish, are a nice weight and handle very well. For anyone starting out in coin magic I think they are a very good investment, particularly coming as such a comprehensive set. The boxes come with two routines for the Boston box which are a good starting point to get going with them. I'm sure there are fancier boxes on the market, but these certainly do the job and come at a decent price.

Overall

Really good. However, my one and only criticism is with the delivery service provided by the company. I opted to pay an extra 4 quid for guaranteed next day delivery, but on completion of my order (no mention on the site), I received an e mailing telling me that the company also dealt with fireworks and halloween products (it was late october when i bought them) and so delays could occur. I e mailed them 6 days later as I had still seen no sign and received a very apologetic (genuinely so ) mail saying that my order had been misplaced. In fairness to them they did deliver the very next day + included a freebie product demo DVD which they normally charge 3 quid for. However I do think if they're offering next day delivery (and charging) then they should ensure that it's prioritised. I'll give them another go, but be warned that there might be problems around halloween/bonfire night.

That's a shame that you had a bad experience with your order. I've used MagicBox a few times and I've recommended them to a few people because of their price promise and the fact my orders have always been dealt with really well. I hope it was a one-off.

I've not really had much to do with coins (I'm mostly into cards), but I know what an Okito box is. I haven't got a clue what the other two are though. What can you do with them?

Thanks for the review - but this post really should have been in the 'Complaints Department' of the MagicBox site...

There's not enough info on the products - and it sounds more like you just wanted to vent some anger at MagicBox - which you could have done in another area.

And as Charles points out - there's no explanation of what these do!!! Yes, there are those of us who are familiar, but a brief description for people who are unaware of the purpose of these items would have been more welcome than the rant about delivery.

The Boston box is basically an Okito box, but with a recess in the base. The sucker boxes are just solid bits of metal to switch and give to the spectator at the end of the trick. If anyone has any other uses for them I'd love to know. There are various routines described in Bobo, basically various penetrations and vanishes.

Sorry you took it that way. I wasn't actually particularly angry with magicbox, but felt it was appropriate to mention my experience with regard to the specific problems at this tiome of year. You do say to mention negatives as well as positives and I thought that I would be letting other people down if I didn't mention this.

Agreed. But a more explanatory review would have weighed the balance in a more useful way. After all, it IS a review section...

Fair enough, but in my defence, Yankee Tom has already done a comprehensive review of the same type of boxes which i would just be repeating. I put this in because i thought this particular set were really good value and becuase I wanted to vent my considerable anger at magicbox
