Torn and Restored Flash Thread presented by Henry Evans

Postby Jordan C » Nov 27th, '03, 12:43

The Effect

The Magician takes a length of string and proceeds to break or cut it into pieces. He then takes the the pieces and rolls them all into a ball. Then with a cigarette lighter the thread is ignited into a luminous ball of fire. The Magician then slowly pulls apart the threads to show that they have magically fused back together!!

Cost

£8

Available from

JB Magic http://www.jbtv.co.uk

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

Review

The T&R Thread is an all time classic in magic and is one of the first tricks I ever learned as a child. What I didnt like as a child though was being left with something I had to ditch. Now my concerns are no more....

Experienced Magi's will already know by the name of this effect how it works and some may even be asking "Why would I want to do it that way?". Well let me tell you why.

You finish absolutely clean. Nothing to ditch, nothing to palm away (apart from the simple sleight at the beginning) and it is HIGHLY VISUAL. The more thread you use the more visual it is.

This is a classic effect and it has been simply yet cleverly tidied up so you, the magician, look even more magical!!

Overall

As I've said this is a tidied up classic. From the moment you roll the threads into a ball you are clean. You can clearly show that your hands are free and empty. Heck you can even borrow the lighter and say things like.... "Did you know that your lighter possesses magical powers?? Honestly, it does. But those powers only become apparent when the lighter is handled by a true magician. Watch this..."

Highly visual, finish cleaner than the Pope and once you know how it works you can replace the necessary bits cheaply and easily. 10 metres of thread is supplied overall and I have nearly run out already!!

5/5

Nice review.

Twice I've looked at the subject of this review and twice I thought it read "Torn And Restored FLESH" which would be an even better if gory trick :o)

Thanks.

T&R Flesh would be pretty gruesome but then DB's pulling out his heart on the street was also gruesome..... maybe there's a way.....???? I'm not trying though!! LoL

This makes an interesting point - and I am in no way suggesting any wrong doing by the reviewer or indeed any contributors to this thread, but the name of the item says it all.

Torn and Restored Flash Thread

I already knew of a good Edited thread routine, (I believe it was one of Daryls), and as soon as I saw the title of the post I thought - hhhmmmm, theres a good idea in the making...

Well of course there doesn't seem to be much more to it than the idea I had that was sparked (sparked! - oh please yourselves) off by the thread name.

So am I now morally obliged to buy it? Would it be wrong of me to buy flash thread and then go with my own workings with the trick that I already know and paid for via the Daryl DVD? After all, It wouldnt have occured to me if I hadnt seen the title of the effect...

food for thought anyway...

OK, I realised the error of my ways and edited out my submission - but COME ON chaps - as Bananafish says, it only takes a magician with an ounce of sense to work this one out for themselves.

Is it ethically, morally, economically, loyally wrong for us all to use this as a kicker ending for our torn and restored thread routines???

I think not. And as Bananafish says, even the very title of the routine will allow performers to guess the way it works.

Genius, though. The review is fine, but I've omitted my innaproprate behaviour and slapped myself about the face with a stuffed lemon. Reprimand administered, cheeks red, blush blush blush

Looking on Bargain Magic - they sell 10feet lengths of Flash String for about £8 - this trick gives you 5m (about 16 feet) for the same price - it makes sense to buy the trick. :?

emagictricks do some for £5.95. 4 Grammes of it, dunno how much length that is!! http://www.emagictricks.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=4235

And as Bananafish says, even the very title of the routine will allow performers to guess the way it works.

I too mentioned that expeienced magi's would know by name how it works in my review. After my previous reprimands though I chose not to make it obvious by specifically naming the thread.
