this is a supurb trick it is easy to do and cheap to!
when i bought mine i had low income (i still do, im a student!) so i bought the cheapest possible however even at £3.95 its still of good quality only thing is the wick can burn out but it is easy to replace.

Thanks for joining in with a review :)

Could you give us some more info, like a link to where you got it from, how easy it is to do and the kind of reaction you get from it?

It would be handy for prospective buyers, I look forward to seeing you around the board :) Enjoy your stay,

BaB

Hi - thanks for the posting! I have this one as well and I'd be interested to hear your comments about it - without giving away too many secrets, of course!

Is yours the same as http://www.emagictricks.co.uk/product_i ... cts_id=473 at all?

Yup - the same as mine! Nice novelty item and guaranteed to scorch your hair off, assuming you have any - which I don't.

Having checked the old order records, I see that mine was the lower priced one anyway so was a bargain priced item. I've only used it a few times and it works well enough - no problems with the fire but getting the leaves to appear in the right place is a bit difficult! Also there is an odour problem (not from me - as far as I know!) to be taken into account.

It's an idea to alternate this with Match to Rose, http://www.emagictricks.co.uk/product_i ... ts_id=2374, as there's no odour and you can wear the rose or, if you're a right creep like me, present it nicely to your Debbie McGee-type assistant.

i was thinking of getting this and i may well do that. especially at that price!

I'm not sure how well this applies to this effect, but as part of my "street" act i perform a fire manipulation routine i.e. retention & exhalation. And thought i may post a few bits of information on the fuels:

Kerosene/paraffin oil - Largest flame, bright yellow, a fair bit of smoke given off.

lamp or candle oil - medium sized flame, bright yellow, quite alot of smoke given off.

coleman fuel - pretty much the same as Lamp/ candle oil

Lighter fuel - relatively whimpy yellow/blue flame, expensive when compared to parafin!!!

Alcohols - pale blue flame very hot-WASTE OF ALCOHOL!!! :(

N.B Parafin or coleman fuel is the most commonly used. (i prefer Paraffin as it is cheaper and a clearer looking flame)

Also flames can be coloured by adding chemicals to them, such as:

Boric acid - Green flame

Lithium chloride - Red

Pottasium acetate - A blue colour, but not a great one.

I hope this has helped.

Ben

from fumes...not entirely sure.
But if u inhale fluid there is the chance of chemical pneumontitis and pulmonary hamerrage. But most fuels are never "pure" so there could be all other kinds of nastys in it. If you want to know for sure you can send of to get a materaial safety data sheet from the manufacturer.
If you are performing with alcohol there is the chance of getting drunk :?!!!
the flames if touched will not burn instantly but the rod on which the wick is placed could become hot and will burn instantly when touched.
o yes....WATCH YOUR EYEBROWS!

Personally I use White Spirits for fire eating. No need to describe the flame, cos you can see it in my avatar.

Gotta say it tastes pretty foul and is liable to repeat on you.

white spirit! alot of the guys I do it with don't use it because its mixed with all sorts of chemicals to "purify" it. also it burns with a "hotter" flame than paraffin. I guess its cool for breathing though. do you do alot of retention?

To be honest I can't compare it to other stuff as I've only ever used White Spirit due to it being the stuff I was trained with. The guy that taught me was a professional fire eater, so I guess he had his reasons for using WS. All I can say is give it a go and let me know how you find it compares.

By the way magicdiscoman, to reduce the chances of any problems you should drink a pint of milk before putting the WS or whatever in your mouth. Don't think your teeth are keen either. Better still just don't swallow any. :)

My boss used to do fire eating while he still performed and mentioned methods of brething flames that reduced the risk of swallowing or inhaling the fuel. I think that he used lighter fuel (he has a crate of cans of the stuff so I reckon I'm safe in that presumption) and said that it can sit in your stomach for weeks if you do swallow it as it floats on anything else you put in there.

Any of the liquids mentioned that can be used for fire breathing will also float on the liquid in your stomach, so i don't think it would matter which one. Theres a good book which is packed with information "fire eating-a manual of instruction" by Ben Mack.
