Drunken Deck

Postby John McDonald » Feb 7th, '04, 11:21

Recently bought this from Mark Mason's JB magic. I love it. Absolutely brilliant. Not a new trick but a classic given a new lease of life
basically it is a deck that does a lot of colour changes that appears really clean and baffling
..easy to do..comes with a DVD with Chris Dugdale's handling and explanation/ performance.

Video is on the website www.jbtv.co.uk go to catalogue and search for drunken deck
Name: Drunken deck

Available from: www.jbtv.co.uk http://magicfact.com/ go to Hankie vision and click on drunken deck

Price: £22.60 (registered post) at JBMagic

Maker: JB Magic bought the rights off Chris Dugdale

Examinable: No

Difficulty: self working

Out of 10: 10/10

Effect A deck of blank cards are shown both back and front, the cards are given a cut and a card appears, another cut and a BLUE back appears. a third cut and an entire BLUE backed deck appears. The cards are held face down, give them a cut and a King of Clubs appears, another cut and a second KC appears, next the entire deck turns into a deck of only KC’s. If you think that sounds good check this out. The deck is turned over and now every back is RED. You now hold an entire deck of RED backed KC. Even the audience are starting to think they are drunk. Give the deck a shake and the RED backs are now all BLURRED. This really is unbelievable to see. One final cut and the deck is BLANK on both sides and reset. This effect comes with a professional DVD of Chris performing the effect live on the streets of New York, Las Vegas and London, The DVD is very well put together with the drunken deck 2 being fully explained. This is a ground breaking method that I have never seen used before in card magic, the clever new principle allows more changes than ever before. Does all this sound too good to be true, well there is one more thing I forgot to mention all of the above is self working, you can do this in 10 minutes. SENSATIONAL MAGIC Comes complete with deck and DVD

An alternate handling which I think is better can be seen at Hank Lee's magic factory

People cannot belive that you are using only one deck when they see it as there are so many deck changes. It has an instant reset and is a perfect trick for walkaround. :D

Welcome to Talk Magic John,

Good review. Why not go to introductions and tell us a bit about yourself.

Cheers

Thanks for the review - did you have the same problems as I did with the deck?

Although the ideas and the routines are fantastic, the quality of the way the first deck had been 'treated' was very poor and, having sent it back for exchange, the replacement still isn't as good as I would expect for £20.00. The vid shows an almost perfect deck being used but both decks I received were far from it. In fairness, some of the faults are probably not noticeable and, if the routine had cost half the price it would have been OK. Obviously I can't go into too much detail here on an open forum but PM me if you want more info.

Just for reference, I also had to send mine back due to poor quality.

As the deck had to go back for exchange and only arrived back a few days ago, I haven't had much chance (or inclination) to check the DVD. There's a fair amount of disappointment involved and I'll probably get round to the DVD eventually but I'm undergoing self prescribed therapy by playing with stuff which I know is top quality! DD is a great idea and a great routine so don't let me put anyone off, just be aware that the deck may not be as good as it could be in terms of how it's been specially 'prepared'.

Mandrake, Bananafish, guess I was lucky with my deck as I had no problems. I prefer the handling where you show the deck as normal first anf then do the changes. It seems a bit better to me.

Jugglemonkey, the DVD is good quality and lasts about 25mins, you see Chris Dugdale perform the effect a few times and he goes step by step with his own presentation and patter but as I say I prefer the handling that you see on Hankievision.

Best

John :D
