This review is only very brief because I only want to highlight this book for its value to magic and mentalism in particular.
As you can probably tell this book is a layman’s guide to the practise of hypnosis. Hypnosis is a powerful psychological technique that taps into the subconscious of the person being hypnotised. This book is literally a guide to what hypnosis is, how it works and why it works. After reading it you will not be a fully-fledged hypnotist nor will you have the urge to jump up and down screaming “The British are coming! The British are coming!” or similar stereotypical hallucinations. However, you will gain an understanding of hypnotic principles and why they work and if you have the creative mind that is inherent in magicians then you will be able to apply those methods to your magic and it’s presentation.
Now, to the book itself. As expected the book is laid out in very simplistic terms and in very plain language. It’s all easy to understand and the chapters are set out clearly and in well defined sections.
If you are interested in branching out from the regular magic orientated material that is out there and trying to use outside influences to improve your skills I suggest you consider this as an introduction to hypnosis. However, please do not buy this book expecting to become a hypnotist. It really is just an introduction to it and to apply the ideas to magic you will have to do the head work yourself.
Rating:
7/10 Because it is not directly linked to magic.
