The dime and penny trick is a very effective set of gaffed coins that has really spooked a lot of people who I've used it on. The trick sells for about $6, and I had someone offer me more than that to tell them how I performed the trick (I refused of course). The best use of the dime and penny is to vanish a dime that is clearly seen in the spectator's hand before the spectator closes that hand. It is also a very good set to use for a visual vanish under a glass by stacking the dime and penny and moving the glass around until the dime is vanished. I've recently found a companion book called "Amazing Magic tricks with a Scotch and Soda, Dime and Penny", which has a number of good tricks to use with the coin set.

I have the dime and penny, and think it is an awsome trick but if the dime gets stuck in backwards, sometimes it won't come out and the trick is wasted, but i highly recommend it and everytime i do iti get great reactions from the people. My favorite tricks are the hand transposition and the coin thru hand plus many more. If you are going to get any coin trick, get this one!

Is this basically the same gaff up as Coin Unique?

How embarrassing!

I thought I had managed to correct my typing errors BEFORE sending. In future I will have to try using my fingers to type with instead!

You have the power to save me from untold embarrassment and ridicule and yet you refuse to use that power...

That's Pure Evil!

I think the very least you can do is to answer the question, or rather answer one of my questions!?! :-)

I have used Dime and Penny for quite a while. The only problem that I have is that the gaff wears out too soon.
I wish there was a good, high quality gaff that would last more than a few months.
Has anyone found such an animal?

Ed...

I bought Dime & Penny about a month ago and realised that I didn't have any real dime on me...so I asked the shop (elmwood) to include one in the next mail, which they kindly did.

Great effect for beginner...a friend of mine suggested me a great routine as follows;

Produce two coins, namely a dime and penny. Put them in the spectator's hand and make a magical gesture, then let her open her palm. The dime has vanished! Where did it go? Produce a mobile phone (video-enabled) or a digi vid cam. In the screen is shown a hand. And the moment later, suddenly a dime appears in the hand! A magican then proceeds to reach out his hand toward the screen. The hand in the screen drops the dime, and simultaneously the performer catches the REAL dime that has almost *visually* transferred from the screen to the real world!

I performed this to many people and always received good comments. I thoroughly recommend it. If you could route the video to a relatively big screen i.e. TV, then you could achieve a small-scale Copperfield-like effect.
