If you are a beginner just starting out, or a magician that is looking to add a couple of tricks to his repertoire, then this book is for you.

This book covers a wide variety of magic tricks, including a ton of card tricks and several coin tricks. Also in this book are several stage illusions and some great impromptu tricks.

The card section alone is worth the price. It includes some major flourshes and several great slights. I won't go into detail of what they are but they are great.

Overall I say this book gets a 5 out of 5, but don't just take my word for it. Get the book and you will see what I mean.

It is basically a larger version of the "cyclopaedia of magic" which is also a highly reccomended book for all beginners.

I purchased this book some time ago for £10 and never really looked at it expecting not much for my money. Recently I have got the magic bug again and decided to pay this book some attention. There are a wide variety of sections from cards, money, impromtu, rope magic and more with each trick containing detailed black and white drawings of each step, with magician and spectator views where required. Each trick is set out with the effect, the method, suggestions sections and any possible variations of endings etc. I think an excellent book for the money with many skills and sleights revealed and tricks being detailed in an easy to understand manner.

Well not really a magic trick, but anyone who catches you performing the coin roll while you are not looking at your right/left hand. Acting like you have no idea what your right/left hand is doing. Gets great response.

eg. talking to someone at a resurant and giving them complete attention, while you are unknowingly *wink wink* showing off you coin roll abilities.

Not saying the roll is the easiest thing to learn. But is easier than you would think.

Some of the mentalist stuff is great as it teaches some very basic but fundamental ideas. The centre tear, one ahead, some envelope necromancy :P

All in all, it really is a worth while investment. Especially if you are starting out. More importantly, it can give you ideas for other tricks if you modify some of the handling/prop work. There are at least a few gems of magic in it.

The stage illusions add a nice touch, I will probably never perform them, but suffice to say that there are some strong illusions if you tweak them slightly :D

Review
THis book is the size of a high school text book, and it is a MAGIC BIBLE. It has techniques on how to do riffle, overhand and hindu shuffles, annd how to throw cards, how to boomerang a card so that it coms back to you.The book is 503 pages and ithe pages are 10.5 inches long. Each section contains around 10 tricks and some of them you can buy seperatly on penguin for $3 to 5. The book has some startling effects that I sued against my friends and family and complete stunned them such as Four COin Assembly or Card THrough Handkerchief. THe book has around 350 to 300 tricks...

Overall
THis books is amazing but I wish it could contain a little more easier and simler tricks becuase some such as the magical illusions you wont use unless you are doing a show... but overall I give it a 10 out of 10

There are not enogh simple tricks with cards and coins and more of these should be added instead of rope tricks or magic illusions which only a stage performer will use and not everyone.... :?

Hence the words 'complete course' -Wingman.

If the course was just based on cards and coins then you'de argue that the title should be complete card and coin magic  .

If it's tricks that you wanted then just buy a book or DVD of card tricks. You've only had the course a few days so give it a chance and study it in detail. Don't skip over the bits on technique in order to get to the tricks.

I would suspect that you're distracted by all of the other bits that you also bought and the desire to learn more and more tricks. Wrong way around I'm afraid  as you'll begin relying on self workers and gimmicks rather then sleight of hand. Sooner or later you'll be back to basics so why not begin there NOW?

Learn all of the basics, practice them until perfect, THEN apply to your tricks and you'll not show out to your specs. If you do it the other way around then you'll be caught out more often than not and people won't be amazed and you'll be stuck with a reputation as a poor magician instead of a good magician.

No by simple I mean something that doesnt require you to be on stage, by simple I meant that there should be more tricks that you can perform out on the street but I see what you mean. I do practice my glide, double lifts, hindu control shuffles, forcing cards, false shuffles and cuts and glimpses, etc. My brother always catches me with the DL but that is only because I told him I do it soetimes now everytime he thinks I use the DL, but I do get my parents on the tricks. What do you mean by basics?

The basics: simple card handling, confident moves. Learn a basic overhand shuffle, then learn to control a card anywhere in the pack. Know your different grips. Be able to perform all this standing or sitting and while talking. Your movements should look natural at all times.

Know the basic moves before learning lots of tricks, you will progress faster this way. Practise, practise, practise, the first time i did the H***U the cards fell out of my hand and on the floor.

You can perform rope magic close-up, i regulary do a rope trick at tables. Just use shorter rope :P.

Stick with it and take your time and you will be fine, try not to get distracted by the latest effects on the market and build up a nice act that you can perform with confidence.

When you start on a book remember to learn the whole section before moving on to the next one, test yourself on the techniques you have been practising. When you are happy then move on to the next section in the book.

I think that covers the basics
