2 card monte

the 2 card monte is a great trick

effect: a magician hands a spectator the ace of spades and tells him to hold it face down, then he shows him the ace of clubs and switches it with the ace of spades, magician asks what card does he think he has, specatator says ace of clubs, now the magician takes the ace of clubs and puts it on top of the ace of clubs, now magician asks which card is on top, and which card is on the bottom, spectator says ace of spades on top, ace of clubs on bottom. magician asks spectator to turn cards around, the cards are now 2 queens

rating= 10/10

pros= cards can be inspected ,no gimmicked cards, just regular cards, gets great reactions an unbelievable trick

cons= if not carefull trick can be ruined but ones you got this trick down its a sinch

This trick is very effective when performed correctly. I feel the secret in getting away with this effect is mis-dirrection.

the trick is great but the one thing i hate is people no matter all your best efforts turn over the one card in thier hand before the end of the trick. If any one has any advice on how to keep those hands down it would be very much appreciated.

Watch for it when it is about to happen, put your hand over theirs and stop them.
Even Blaine has to do it (watch in his video)

I tend to make the first move 'dodgy' looking to make the spectator suspicious and then let them look at the first card. This makes them less suspicious for future moves and the momentum of the following process should be enough to stop the spectator wanting or even having time to think about looking at the cards. It's kind of like a cups and balls routine, where each individual move as an effect on its own would have spectators grabbing for the cups or hands, but because of the momentum of the trick, going from one effect to the next, the spectator has no time to think in between!

I wont bore you with the full story but the long and the short of it was, I was performing the 2 card monte the other day, and the women I was showing was with her child. As I done the first switch the child said " thats the wrong card" !!!

So beware of children when performing this one!!!

Well, it's nice to know I'm not the only one who runs into people that don't understand what "without looking at the card" means.

I LOVE THIS TRICK!!! The 2 card monte is just simply amazing. How i use to turn the deck over is the biddle grip. if you don't know what that is i suggest you look it up for doing this trick and many others. Some guy i did this to almost swore several times out loud!! Perfect Trick!

To make sure they don't look you must be quick. To do this you must keep talking...YOU MUST!! you have to talk about something like the weather or aything!

If the misdirection doesn't work improvise the effect and make it look like a transpostion.
