Name : Rising Card Deck
Price : £10.99 Abrakazam
Type : Card
Reset : 30secs in private
Tim to learn : about 10mins
Examinable : No
Difficulty : 1-2
What you get : ultra thin gimmick, and a pack of Bicycle poker cards.

Effect : The spectator selects a card, the selected card is placed in the middle of the deck, and with a magical pass the card slowly rises out of the Deck!! The card can then be given to the spectator as a souvenir.

Comment : I myself dont really perform this much because its not examinable and because of some masked T*at most people know how it is done, but it is a great trick. David Blaine performs this.

Rating 8/10

I agree, I have been using it for ages and they still don't know how it is done. Great gimmick

Ahh, but there are quite a few methods of doing this...

Learn at least 3 ways to get the card to levitate, and start with the most obvious. If someone's really burning you while you do it, change tactic.

In fact, the 'gimmicked deck' which was disclosed by 'that man' on TV is probably the worst to use anyway, as the handling of the deck is handicapped by the gimmick.

There's a gimmick called 'loops', by Yigal Mesika, which is universally a really good prop to own. I've used this to perform a CLEAN rising card trick with a deck borrowed from a fellow magician. It was my own handling, and blew him away. The deck was left clean before AND immediately after the trick.

There are also lots of friction methods involving waxes, threads and ITRs, but as magicians, you guys should have all the tools, sleights and know-how to be able to prove to the world that just because they saw ONE method of doing something revealed on TV, it does not neccessarily mean it is the best, definitive way to do it.

Hmmm...

I really only use Bee's for manipulations, or when doing 'sleight of eye' tricks like proper 3 card monte...

When doing card tricks, the white border on Bicycles make them much more a visual card to use, especially when doing false counts etc... (just try the Las Vegas Leaper with Bee's!!!) and therefore gives more of an illusion of cards moving.

The rising card is so much cleaner with Bicycles, i'd imagine. I don't think I'd attempt them with Bee's to be honest.

interesting i just thought with the border being white it is a bit obvious, thats what i use at the minute, but for that reason i was going to try blue bees

Well, we've all got our own techniques and styles, and that's not a bad thing.
I don't really think there's a right or wrong way to do these tricks, it is just whatever works best for you.

It is a wonderful gimmick, in fact one of my favourite gimmicks in the whole world of magic - but I have never used it in performance. It is unwieldly, unexaminable and fragile(ish.)

I agree wholeheartedly with Seige. There are rather a lot of ways to do this trick and we all do it our own way. If you'd like a bit of advice, take a look at Kundalini Rising by Jeff McBride.

It is sort of fragile and delicate, but a good trick none the less, huh?

Fragile, delicate and unreliable.

Although it's tempting to riffle the pack to try and suggest it's not a fake deck, this can invariably lead to kinks and bends in the gimmick, which will stop it functioning correctly.

Look after it, however, and you'll get plenty of service out of it.

I do this with 2 decks . This eliminates the possibility of anyone grabbing for the deck as they hold there f*r*ed card and the rest of the deck. And as for showing the deck to be normal if you simply fan the top few cards the spectator will quite comfortably beleive that it is normal.
