It's called "The I Hate David Copperfield Trick". No it's not examinable, but hey, do it, stun people and put the cards away (or move into a different routine)

the thing is that as soon as you have done this trick they ask can i see the card and to deny them of this makes them suspicious

Krazyace, I'm not sure how you do magic, but the reaction I get off people isn't "hang on! those cards might not be kosher!"

It's normally along the lines "How the hell did you do that?" or assorted swearing at me.

And packet/deck switches are easy enough anyway.
If you like the trick, buy it. Learn some methods to make sure it is examinable.

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

I've heard some good things about this DVD.

the thing is that as soon as you have done this trick they ask can i see the card and to deny them of this makes them suspicious

I sort of agree with Ecko here and if you're getting immediate responses of "let me see the cards" then you need to alter the presentation to implant the suggestion that the cards are normal, and then manage your audience a little more effectively.

The key is to identify points in your routine where things like this might happen and move straight on to something else. If you flow from one routine into something else which is also interesting, then they won't have a chance to examine the cards. That's why the "here let me show you a trick" approach falls down.

I think for the "I hate.." trick, a good solution would be to have the two cards picked by the spectator and force the dirty card. I don't have the DVD, but by experimenting, I think I figured out the gaff. If it's similar to the voodoo zone gaff, which I think it is, a force should be fine. If I said too much with the voodoo zone idea, please edit it.

Examined cards

Krazy Ace,

In all the 16+ years I've performed this, I don't recall ever having anyone ask to examine the cards. Just do all movements slowly and smoothly and it should look very fair.

Within the past few years, I'll sometimes have the cards "examined" by having a spectator feel the ends of the cards "to make sure they're single cards" (which they are). Since they've been "examined" at the beginning, there should be no desire to have them examined afterwards. Works very nicely.

You might want to try this if you start to feel guilty. : )

As for a review of the Miracles For Mortals set, check out Joe Turner's review in the June 2006 issue of Genii.

Very favorable.

"The I hate the David Copperfield" trick as seen in demo is in Michael Ammar - Easy To Master Card Miracles Vol 6. There is the trick called: Close-up illusion.
It is a very good and visual trick. Idont think it is not so much problem with inspections of the cards. As mentioned before its good to have the cards selected from the deck, after a certain card trick maybe , insteed taking them separetely from the pocket.
