Another Butter Coin Question

Postby TopHouse » May 1st, '06, 18:25

If you view the video here :-

At one point he disappears the coin and it turns into a giant half dollar. My question is, do you get this enlarged half dollar in the pack or is it extra?

If not, this video is certainly misleading.

I don't think that it odes come with it, no. I have seen them, sold seperately but they're not too cheap.

If that IS the case, Penguin are guilty of misleading advertising!

Butter coin is supplied complete with the specially prepared coin and a professionally shot and edited DVD complete with multiple camera angles and lots of crisp close ups. On the DVD you are taught the following six illusions:

how it clearly states one coin no jumbo no adheasive tape no elephant.

But their demo shows it changing into a big half dollar, it's misleading. Now we all know that full contents aren't always listed for tricks for obvious reasons, but that is Penguins demo video for that effect and it shows it change into a big half dollar, now don't get me wrong, there are cases, and cases, i mean, it's obvious that when it shows a card trick you don't gey the table. BUT, when you see a video demo for a trick, I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that if you buy the trick, you get the parts to be able to do the trick in the video, and with this you don't!

As a business that deals with trading standards more than most, I think trading standards would agree with me on this one.

you may have a point to force them to change there video but they won't add a jumbo coin into the package.

its accepted practide when showing a magic demo that you don't show the peek from a peek wallet or show a card force, after all when they show a pen through banknote you don't get the note nor do you get all though wonderfull props that come out of a production box.

you are expected to e-mail them if you are unsure of what is included in the package.

you can get butter coin variants that include extra coins but they cost a lot more.

The excerpt that Penguin use if straight off the DVD that the presumed inventor has made to accompany it. It's his poetic licence I suppose as he also shows some other effects on the DVD. This is just one of the possible effects.

I didn't think that the DVD was misleading as I recall the blurb just stating that you got the coin and the DVD - that's it. You could produce a giant chocolate coin!

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!
