Obsessive Compulsive Disorder which isn't just a tic, but as Zack said is quite often found in sufferers.

i noticed his tic on both his stage show and on the tv. but you cant really blame him as he is under a huge ammount of stress on stage, and its probably less prominent on tv because he is under less pressure to get it right first time.

You've just reminded me of something I thought about over the weekend. Why not have a Derren Brown outtakes DVD.

He also has a tendancy to say "Obvioushly" instead of "Obviously".

Well if he actually does have OCD, and having a tic certainly isn't evidence-although can be a symptom-of this since there are a whole host of medical (Parkinsons, Torettes etc) and non-medical reasons for tics (habbit, nervousness) it wouldn't be easy at all for him to 'eliminate it', since people with OCD need treatment and often medication to combat their illness.

And secondly, maybe he doesn't want to? Eliminating every 'flaw' of your person to be a more attractive personality is very false. If it doesn't bother him, then it shouldn't bother anyone else.

From the interview I linked to on page 1 Derren says:
"It did start off as a way of getting people to agree with me. It has since turned into a 'thing' that I don't mind because I think any hints of weirdness add to it. It's sort of ended up crossing into a habitual tick. Sometimes I do play up to it whilst performing, and when I'm self conscious then I find myself doing it anyway. It's one of those weird things".

I read somewhere that he learnt it as part of a trick to get people to agree with him, but it turned into a habit.

'tic's' as I understand them are associated with Tourettes rather than OCD but the two conditions do occur together quite often...

Yes, you are right. However, having a Tic is not necessarily a symptom of having Tourettes. For example, I do not have Tourettes but I do have a mild form of OCD and have had/occasionally have a Tic not disimmilar to Derren's but nowhere near as pronounced either.

I know, I just meant a tic alone does'nt mean he has OCD any more than it means he has Tourettes.

Sorry I didn't explain myself too clearly...
