Hey, you should only complain about rearranging other people in public

Perhaps more misdirection is required for personal reorganisation... not that I ever do anyway  Hmm you were talking about putting your tie straight, and combing hair sort of rearranging yeah?

BTW, welcome Diva of Deception. Don't worry, this isn't representative of the level of conversation here usually :)

OK - back to the topic of women in Magic.

Being involved in the Young Magicians Club, and finding that both there and at TMC there are around 10% females makng up the membership I have come to this conclusion:

As youngsters boys are quite happy with their own company and therefore are quite content to sit in their bedrooms for hours messing around with a deck of cards. They'll practise and practise, learn new stuff - and sometimes never get around to showing anyone what they've achieved.

Girls, on the other hand, are much more social creatures. Staying alone in their bedrooms is punishment, not fun - unless there's a mobile phone in their hands! Girls are very social animals and like to be with their mates, chatting away, going places etc. Not for them the solitary life of practising with a deck of cards and a piece of rope.

That, I believe, is why there are fewer females and particularly child ones. The magicians mentioned on here who are professionals all started magic when they were grown ups.

And Shalom to my compatriots.

It is a great shame that not that many women peform magic. Having said that though there a lot more than you think. Many are only know if you work in magic and travel around a bit. I remember doing a gig at a restaurant and a group of girls were saying they would like to learn some magic but thought it was too late as they were all around 19! we should have more.

Good point  But is that the case though. You have your magic circle membership, awards etc. That puts you head and shoulders above any new female magicians just starting. You know as well as me that experience counts. So newbies are no threat at all

  Yes, that is totally what I ment. I think it's terrible to neaten yourself up in public

Speaking of rearranging in public, it looked like that was what the Trinidad&Tobago chap was doing on pitch last night! Unfortunately for him he had just been knocked in a tender place :D
