Hello all.

Can anyone tell me if I could use this with Bee cards? I mean, could the various special cards be made at home? Or is there anything that can only be made in a factory or whatever?

Appreciate any help.

I think you could with care and attention. Without giving too much away it is essentially an arts and craft project. Also, as long as you could make the holes a perfect circle and follow the gimmick as a template when you first purchase it, so perhaps you may need a compass.

This really is visual and quite underrated as an effect. The z-wallet routine is particularly strong as well.

Thanks for the reply, Rufio.

How PERFECT do they need to be? I don't mind if they _look_ sort of home made, i.e. like I've just grabbed some cards and cut out some circles. If anything, that could be a good thing, as it won't look so much like I've just bought a 'magic trick' at the local magic shop.

But will the effect still work if they're not perfect?

Sure, one could draw the circles with a compass, but I'm not sure you could cut them out. Scissors wouldn't work, and I'm not sure a scalpal could cut in a circle.

Buy a Hole Punch - Hobbycraft sell them in stores and online, www.cards4magic.co.uk also sell a good selection. Playing cards are quite tough and I found that some extra effort is required to cut through, I put my punch in a vice and slowly closed it until the card was pierced. You can get extention gizmos to add extra leverage to the punch, Hobbycraft do them and the whole Create and Craft market is awash with them! The Hobbycrafts (despite the name nothing to do with Hobbycraft shops) exhibitions are held regularly in several UK cities ( see http://www.ichf.co.uk/hobbycrafts/ ) and are worth attending for one day to see all the bits of equipment which can be useful to the magish. Blue glue, sticky dots, DS tape, scalpels and card cutters for shortening cards and so on. There should be a large 'CUPS Alert' posted at the door of these things!

Although this is a great trick, it still doesn't feel like it works 100% everytime, something not quite reliable about it. Never quite like performing something that you are hoping or praying that it is actually going to work every single time. Maybe my gaffe things werent the best ones, but then that's all I have to go by and nothing to compare with.

If you use the Anthony Owen handling where you use a Z wallet it will pretty much keep the gimmicks intact with a reset you can do on the fly under cover of the wallet. I've had no problems using that handling and it is a sure fire method; HOWEVER, due to the nature of the gimmicks, contrary to what the instructions say, once you show the appearance of the card between the two holey cards, it's pretty-to-fairly impossible to spread the sandwiched card between them, which loses a visual magical moment to sell the effect. It then simply relies on the actual vanish moment itself to wow, but for me, that vanish would be dramatically more amazing IF the card could cleanly be displayed.

And yes, the title is quite disgraceful, though quirky. One can only speculate as to what lies behind the asterisk.
