I go to a boarding school, and when something arrives for you, the receptionist, will ask someone to take the package and find you.

There are a few magicians at my school, and one of them ordered a monster bertha. Well, the poor small year 7 child that came looking for him, ran all over the school, and eventually found him in the computer room working on a 7 page essay for his english GCSE.

The small child threw the package onto the desk next to the computer...

no more essay.

I still want to get one for myself when i have the money.

All the best,

seige wrote:If it's any consolation to anyone considering a Monster, who may think that magicians are being ripped off by dealers on magnets, can I just say that over the weekend I did some costings and the results were a bit worrying!

MONSTER BERTHA PACKAGE:
When bought with TM discount (10%) and free shipping on NUMS, the cost comes out at £49.50 to the customer.

From this, it costs me £5 to ship it.

Which leaves £44.50.

For the card transaction, I am charged £1.20, which leaves £44.30.

It takes 1/2 hour to drive to post office, and back.

Packaging, printed materials and the likes cost about £1.20.

We're now at £43.10.

Most of the items in the pack are hand-made by me, and the materials costs (without my time & production) for the kit are £39.

This leaves me with £5.10 profit—which merely covers the time and effort to write the two included booklets, put the package together, and ship it.

So, am I on a loser here? Who is the fool in this setup?

I did make a claim I could get the price lower on a Monster, but in light of this costing exercise, I should be RAISING the price.

However, I won't be. As I believe it's great value for money. And part of the thrill for me is that every Monster package which has left the building has had great feedback. And personally, that's what counts.

Damn, you must love the art!
Big Neo's are a pain in the *rse to work with. I've had them jump together with my clothin in-between, cutting my new t-shirt, etc.
Plus you have to wrap them in a LOT of bubble wrap to prevent them from sticking to things! I'm sure Royal Mail aren't happy with magents...

I have a Bat and use it for the effects I need it for, although I have been tempted with the Bertha, it's too similar (though more powerful than the Bat) for me to justify buying it.
Would the accessories work with the Bat good enough if I purchased them individually?

The package when it comes from NUMS is very well wrapped. It is boxed and bubble wrapped an is no problem to the Royal Mail at all.

You need to read the warning Siege puts in with the beast, it can have a mind of its own. In fact I am begining to think that you can't say you have worked with one of these until you have trapped a finger or goit it stuck to something embarrassing.

What you get in the package is fantastic value for money because its not just Bertha herself but all the baby Berthas, shims and even a gimmicked Sharpie.

All I have added to the set myself for table work is a knee strap which Mrs Wizz ran up for me from some black material and a length of widish Velcro. My problem with this work is that I am rather short and need to contort myself at a bit of an angle to get full control. However I have made it work to great effect even through a thick pub garden table.

This is of course something you are either going to want to use or not want to. My message would be if you want to do PK work don't be put off by scare stories about the damage this beast can do. Yes, it is very powerful, yes you could do some damage with it but unless you take it recklessly close to electronic equipment or (like me) are silly enough to try to part the elements with a Swiss Army Knife, you have here a wicked tool which nobody ever suspects. It operates totally out of site and with a few gaffed non metalic items is truly baffling.

With regard to gaffed items, the gaffed match which comes with it is a briiliant opener. I start by showing my powers with something light and easy to move and graduate to heavy metal objects by which time the true secret is well beyond anyone.

Yeah, I know someone who made a knee strap, and used his in pub gardens, but alot of tables have metal legs, or sometimes even table tops. Slight problem there.

Mrs Seige has been busy beavering with the sewing kit... we've just acquired shipping quantities of 50mm elastic strap, and are custom making knee/wrist straps for each Bertha.

The nice way this works is that you can switch the magnet from 'off' to 'on' on the leg by rotating it behind the upper-facing surface.

I bought a wristband from a sports shop and slit a hole into it.. threw the bertha in and sowed it shut..

now I just look like I am wearing a sweat band.. should one spot it under the jacket.

The one that came with my Bertha was too big for my wrist and so I will keep that for the leg.

Yeah, I would do something like that, but as Farlsobrough pointed out on Sunday, I have small hands, so the band would flap about near anything metal. :?

The new NUMS bands are adjustable—from 'childlike' wrists up to Dat size ;)

Anyone who already owns a Bertha is welcome to one... just giz a nudge...
