Here is Cyril's latest appearance from the Japanese show "Hey! Hey! Hey! Music Champ" on the 28th of August 2006. I'm the first to upload this to YouTube so its an "exclusive!" :P

Part 1 and Part 2

He does an excellent coin-through-table trick on part 2 :D

I agree, Cyril Takayama is one of the best street magicians today. It's strange that the guys that were bashing him in the beginning of this thread are dead quiet now? Have they changed their mind about him?
The sneeze-drop-head and his hamburger-from-poster tricks are well thought of.
I like Cyril much more than Chriss Angel, becuse of his apperance, though he's got many good tricks.
I don't see the need to name one or another as "the best", but I think that bashing great performer is unneeded here.

I wouldn't exactly call Cyril a street magician.

I have seen 4 clips with Cyril and I can only specify him from what I know.

1 In a public train or underground (outside)
2 In an amusement park (outside)
3 Outside a burgerplace (outside)
4 In a studio with audience (inside)

Sorry, but if 3 out of 4 don't qualify you as a street magician, then I completely misunderstood the concept. Do you actually have to stand in the street itself? :o

I wouldn't exactly call Cyril a street magician.

Please explain why?

Cyril often perform his tricks in the crowded street with people surrounding him. Those are real audiences. He is not allow to make any mistake. I think he is qualify as a street magician.

i was looking around in the forums and i found this thread.
well first i would say among criss angel, cyril and david blaine, i prefer cyril the most. some of you say he does not hav a good sleight of hand. but comparing his cigarette routine and criss angel's, i would say cyril's one is by far the best cigarette routine i have seen(or maybe im just new to magic). David blaine is.. i do not know what to say about him he prefers poking cigars through coins and into his nose..Cyril's gum routine is good too, and i would say it is one of a kind.

I may be wrong about what i say here, maybe because im not as experienced and seen as much magic as others. Personally i prefer Cyril because i like the way he presents his magic and how simple but pwoerful it is. He certainly knows how to choose his magic and he knows that using camera tricks is not the way for him. there are other great magicians around the world, with better sleights and creativity than any of the three hot magicians now. magic is very diversified. some prefer those which can impress tv audience, thus use camera tricks. others prefer practical and shocking stuff right in front of their face. it all depends on one's preferance. i prefer magicians who can really entertain me with simple stuff, even though gimmicks are used, it never failed to amaze me and others. so personally i prefer cyril takayama and i respect him for using his hard earned money to purchase expensive but practical tricks, not just open windows movie maker and start editing and showing off everything.

I agree totally. And what puts Cyril way ahead of Chriss Angel, is that his videos are not edited and cut, cut, cut, like CA's videos. You see a whole trick from Cyril, and there is no cut untill the magic is finished. But CA's videos are edited and cut like a regular Hitchcock movie. That puts Cyril head and shoulders above CA.

Gunnarkr - your last comment has an outright lie - but I'm not getting into this debate again.

Performing outdoors doesn't make you a street magician, either.

My main reason for not considering him a traditional street performer is that many of his effects are NOT off the cuff. This is more of a perception thing, so perhaps I should have clarified that in my original statement. I view street magic as more impromptu. He is a very gifted sleight of hand performer, but a good amount of his work requires set up and/or specialized props and gimmicks.

In no way does this detract from his perfomance in my eyes, but I don't see him as a street magician mostly because I view that as a performer who does things on the fly.

When I think street magic, I think along the lines of some of the Gregory Wilson stuff - magic with found/borrowed objects. That sort of thing. Same reason I wouldn't consider Criss Angel a street magician. David Blaine is more of a street magician, I think.

So that's my explanation. It's more a personal opinion, really.

OKBUN - are you sure he's not allowed to make a mistake? You don't think it's possible that a few takes were botched and those segments were cut? Please don't tell me you think this....

In my opinion neither Cyril nor Criss nor any others of that 'ilk' are street magicians - may I coin a phrase and call them TV magicians? They both do a particular brand of magic which comes across very well on TV but I imagine their own styles wouldn't come across so well in real life. Some of Derren Brown's stuff is like that (zombie video game, anyone?)
