I phoned Laurence yesterday (because I was enquiring about a PK gimmick) and we spoke briefly about this site.

The situation is this. Laurence has a few sites that he runs and because of lack of time, he now has virtually nothing to do with this site. As we have already established, even the moderators largely never visit (with perhaps one or two exceptions).

He said he did intend to patch a link through from one of his sites (emagictricks.co.uk) through to this forum and possibly add this forum's address to the 3000 odd newsletters (e-mail variety) that he sends out each month.

Either way it would be great to see a bit more happening around here.

Until this happens, why don't the few of you that still visit this board take a closer look at "themagiccafe.com". At first I found the site a bit overwhelming... it is enormous! Now I find myself occasionally posting and when I have accumulated 50 posts, you gain access to the Magician's Only area.

I must say that like the rest of you, I still feel a great attachment to this board... It's really weird, after all, I don't even know what you guys look like! The reason for this is because I, like a few of you, have been here for what seems like an age.

Anyway, I'm waffling on now!

... Tony

Long live Talk Magic forum, and credit where it's due to Laurence.

If it's time to offer our services again then I don't mind. As a student I will have a lot of time on my hands from the 7th June onwards, after my exams finish, so if it's just a matter of keeping an eye on the forum I'm game, and if there is anything technical to do I'm a fairly quick learner and always want to improve my computing.

Nick

PS I have also been here since week one of The Old Forum

My Turnip is otherwise occupied (Summer Season in local Harvester Restaurant) but the lemon is available.

Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music. - Kristian Wilson, Nintendo, Inc, 1989..

Thanks for the vote...
Unfortunately (or fortunately) you're right... My job as a graphic/web designer gives me constant access to the internet all day (and I get paid for it!)

The advantages are: I've got this forum up CONSTANTLY on this secondary machine, which 'dings' every time a new post pops up.

The disadvantages are: I've grown callouses on my bum from sitting in front of computers 12 hours a day, and my eyesight is weakening yearly.

I'm by no means a computer nerd... but by virtue of using a computer for graphic design, I'm kind of 'attached' to one constantly.

I'd love to have a go at moderating, as I've moderated a design forum before, and it was great.

I come here not only as a way of expressing my interest in Magic, but also, like now (Saturday Lunchtime) I'm here on top of a hill, one of only 3 properties in a 4 mile radius, with no-one to talk to ( ) except you guys. There's only three of us work here, and we're all in separate rooms.

It's a solitary job, but in able to stay creative, silence and solitude really help. But like now, it's also really good to have a break once in a while.

There's a nice little community building up here, and the 'regulars' are getting used to each other. There's some really good, serious advice here, but we're also having a laugh - and that's what life's all about.

So, I would be happy to commit my Turnip to moderating, as I'm sure would a few others...

Anyway, back to work. I'm trying to get finished by 2pm so I can try and enjoy the rest of the Bank Holiday weekend with my loved ones. Plus, a small parcel has arrived from the States - which is inevitably going to be magical... something to look forward too.

Anyhow - here's to the Forum, and all who sail upon her.
