Vanishing Matches

Postby EckoZero » Jun 16th, '06, 04:27

Here's an idea that's been floating around in my mind for a while.

Please be aware...

THIS IS A PROTOTYPE

Not looking for guesses on how it's done and whatnot, just wondering what you all think the idea :)

When it's completely finished (this is the final prototype before I make the real thing btw...) there's not gonna be any of the problems you (might) see here.

Anyways...

Enjoy!

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

I like the last few seconds of the clip, when you're checking your webcam and the angle of your matchbox - and you get this funny little "oh, look - it actually looks good" expression on your face.

As for the effect itself, my only gripe is how little of the matches are shown before the vanish. Would it be possible to, at the very least, show the box half open and full of matches?

LOL :D
Yes I noticed that too.
I'd spent hours trying to make that work. I was initally recording it as a "how can I improve this" and found out it works :D

As for showing more of the matches, the answer is yes. Once I'm done, I'll be showing the contents fully, you'll be able to hear them and I'll even take a match out and light it to show they're real

Like I said, just a prototype, but hopefully when I make the full version it'll look pretty damn good...

looks like a good effect ecko, i like it

agree with being able to show more of the matches and maybe giving the box a little shake to add to the illusion of a full box.

I like it alot. I had the pleasure of an early discussion about this trick and I like where it has ended up.

Keep up the good work.

Now we need a video of your new Anniversary Waltz we were talking about. Sounds really good and I wanna see it in action!

I liked it.

Would you be able to reverse the trick though?

Like if someone asked for a light you then get out a box which turns out to be empty. Get the spectator to wave their hand over the box and now its got some matches in.

Just an idea.

Well Mini, to be fair I hardly recognised you from your avatar!.

I didn't really see anything wrong with the video at all. Nothing that wouldn't fly past a spectator in real-world situations. It was certainly interesting to see the video of this idea, I liked it!

Thanks guys!

Can't wait to get the final thing prepared!
And now I have a new project... making matches appear rather than disappear :D

And Mini, my lip nose and eyebrow piercing are just three of 11 piercings I have...

Hey I like it :)

I have some extra ideas for you though that you may like to experiment with.

With the audio of the matches shacking it would be really great, I think that would be a big convincer. But in addition to that you could have the shaking shound "lessen" as one by one matches disappear from the box, until only one match can be heard rattling around. You could also maybe open the box half way through the vanish to show that there are now less matches than before...

I don't know how your doing it, so all of that may not be possible, but I think those ideas are accomplishable (although might complicate the trick some what, I don't know).

But hey nice video, I look forward to the appearance of the matches!
