I have never read Richards book on the pass. I am sure it is dreadful since I get the impression that he knows as much about performing as I do about the care and breeding of Japanese butterflies.

I do have some of his other finger flinging books. Somehow I can't get into them. Too technical or something. I am more of a fan of Harry Lorayne. I think he, Lewis Ganson and Jean Hugard were the best writers on magic.

Ganson and Hugard even wrote up routines for the svengali deck. Not generally known but they did. Lorayne never did although he actually was a svengali pitchman in his youth.

I do not approve of DVD's on the grounds that I have absolutely no idea what they are.

And neither do I approve of invisible passes on the grounds that I do not believe they exist and if they do then they shouldn't. Why? I have no idea. Just call it instinct.

As for Kaufmann I don't approve of him either.

i dont believe the Invisible Pass exists... for starters, i've never seen one. and further more, should i happen to see one then i'll know it doesn't exist, since if i see it how can it be invisible?

You can't see the wind but you know it exists 'cos you experience the effects. (Rather an enigmatic reply there, I thought  !)

Stephen, I wasn’t going to mention that it was a DVD, for I knew that would be enough information for Mr Lewis to disregard it altogether !

Nonetheless, Mr Lewis, your knowledge of these great authors (especially Hugard who has had a most positive influence on my magic) never ceases to amaze me. But I am somewhat disappointed in the ignorance you have openly displayed regarding the care and breeding of Japanese butterflies.

Bobby,

All great sleights don’t exist when performed perfectly !

Mandrake... very nice. kind of "if a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it... does it make a sound?" same kind of ball park quality as that, nice one.

of course i cant see the wind but i cant see it's effect and feel it... unlike the ellusive invisible pass which as Costas so rightly says, is harder to see the better one performs it.

I rather like the quote:
All great sleights don’t exist when performed perfectly
- it should be printed off and hung on every magician's wall along with John Lenahan's motto of
Classics are classics for a reason
