When I watch Copperfied, I'm not trying to work out how an effect was done (OK, perhaps a little). To us magicians it should be pretty obvious that he uses props, gimmicks and the occasional stooge but we're NOT lay people which is his audience!

If like I do, you watch Copperfield for the entertainment value and to pick up tips in presentation techniques rather than trying to spot the wires, you should realise that he's a master at what he does.

I often wonder about magicians watching magic and if when becoming a magician we lose our ability to still be entertained by magic, no matter how good.

The truth is that people like Copperfield are on a totally different plain to us when it comes to performing magic so why don't we enjoy it more and criticize less?

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

not at all.. i switch off when watching performances...maybe later i'll try out a few methods to replicate what i saw but at the time i just watch the performance

Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music. - Kristian Wilson, Nintendo, Inc, 1989..

Personally I still very much enjoy watching shows maybe this is because I am still a amature and not as skilled as some.

Magic is real, just look around you, some of the most amazing things have no reason, no explanation but are very real.

im still an amateur also but i dont think it matters what skill level you are. a good performance is a good performance no matter how good you are. Personally i hate performing for magicians basically due to the "i know how you did that" type ego bullsh!t that goes along with it.. now dont get me wrong not all magi are like this but there are some (especially among the younger crowd) who see it as more of a challenge to their skills as magi rather than just shut the hell up and watch!

And yes Dat.. i think we are!
