This is a great thread and it is really pleasing to hear the bizzar theories that muggles come up with to try and work out what you did! It is what makes magic magical for me, I meen LED screen cards! dots up your nails, planting a random woman on a train in china! and heat sensitive ink! this is priceless stuff keep them coming

I made my wife dissapear just by arguing with her!!!

hehehe these are all very good :)

I performed Dan Garcia's 'Torn' the other day to some girls, and as i pieced their card back together, they looked unimpressed and said "oh, you've obviously got glue on the edges!"

I cooly said "very good you've rumbled me", restored the last piece and handed the card out for inspection.

Then they were bleedin impressed.

luv 'em...

A couple funny reactions:

Infusion: "So there's a hole in the glass? Wait...wait...What?!"

m5 (made a chicken bone float while underneath a glass): "The spirits in this house do this a lot. I had a music box turn on all by itself once."

Revolution: "Nooo...nooo...It's under your foot or something. Move out of the way."

The person actually pushed me out of the way and proceded to check the floor and my shoes for the coin, but to no avail.

Thanks,

I've been accused of using a stripper, having an entire deck full of SIGNED KING OF HEARTS, several times been accused of filling a permanent marker with non-permanent ink during the wipe of signature trick (like I'm THAT sad?? )

Stil think the best one was my brainwave deck down the pub. It uses a presentation where a spectator writes down a card and I throw the piece of paper into the bag.

Firstly I was accused of somehow seeing the card on the paper (ok... I did  - but they don't know that  ) then when i spread to show their face up card I was accused of turning it over as I spread, then... get this! As I showed it was the only blue backed card ina red deck... they accused me of having colour changing ink

During a coin matrix alo, I was once accused of picking up the cons and throwing them really fast and accurately to the other corner

These people think far too irrationally

Oh! One last one... durng an ACR, I was accused of grabbing the card and stripping it to the top in one swift motion as I riffled up the pack...

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

These are all cool as! :D

Which brings me to my next point (before I flee for the door as I'm going away for a few days and am desperately packing)!

If these illogical ideas are what people think we do, would it be a useful idea to incorporate some of their ramblings into the patter of an effect?

For example, before they say anything tell them that the heat is actually changing the card in their hands... Therefore misdirecting them further from the real reason.

Just a thought I'd throw another element into the mix..

Yeah that makes sense, I might have a think about that....hmmmm

Like when I'm restoring the torn card i could claim some bizarre scientific theory to explain it, maybe.

But then thats not very 'magic' i guess....aargh

Alright you could say that would reduce the 'magic', but you could also argue that's exactly what Mr Brown & Banachek did for mentalism, made it appear that it was based on science and pschology rather than psychic powers and it has proved highly successful for them...

Anywho, I've got to dash but I'll look forward to anymore good stories and your responses when I return (or can get near a pc whilst I'm away).

I was having the same thought as you reading this ... did you plant it in my mind by some sort of NLP in your posts

Anyway, I was performing Nailed (Sankey) for my mum and dad trying to sort out patter and angles etc before blessing it on the world in general. It was also the early days of my DL.

So I come to the part where I fake an error in the trick and my mum says ' dear, didn't you just turn over XXXXXX cards?'

Confidence shattered my 36 years of maturity regressing to that of an 8 year old befor my parents I nearly jacked it all in there and then. But I decided I would get their reaction anyhow and I said, 'look I'm only just learning this ok!!! lets just finish it and mother SHUT UP.' I love my mum, honest!

So I completed the trick with no more motherly outbursts.

Dad is impressed.

Mum is gob smacked.

'I don't get it mum' I said 'You saw what I did, right?'

'Did what dear.'

'The turny over the cards thing. You spotted it?'

'No I didn't - I was worried for you because you looked so upset that the trick had gone wrong I thought that it could be the only possible answer. I didn't know that you really HAD done that.'

So what did I learn from this?

1 - mother is psychic. Otherwise how did she know my sleight without seeing it
2 - my acting is darned good - no wonder I could pull so many sickies when I was a kid!

(hope this all makes sense, had to word it carefully so as not to give the workings of nailed away ....)
