Back to the purpose of the thread though (sorry about my previous posts, which digressed slightly!)...

This effect is simple, effective, and as Jabba says, in the right circumstances it is a real stunning effect.

Don't force it into a performance, though. Wait your moment wisely and it will pay dividends. Also, you'll need to practice a bit before performing for the first time, as the margin for error and getting a red face from this one is quite high!

Not my cup of tea (or indeed, my can of soda!), but 8/10.

Creasing

Postby magicguy » Apr 30th, '03, 16:10

I am finding that everytime I try it, the can pops back out into shape and there are lines left on the can where the dents were. Is this what you mean by "creasing?"

Does anyone else have lines left on the can?
If you do, do people still think it looks like magic?
Or... is there a way to end up with a pristine looking can like on the front cover of the booklet? (Can a towel do that?)

I bought this one based only on the description and the photos on the front of the booklet and I feel like those results are not possible. :(

For you guys who use this out there among people... are you getting the cans to pop out smooth? (by the way thanks for the tip about the towel -above- I will try it)
Do people ask to see the can afterwards?
I want to avoid squashing the can if possible.

I'll take a private message if you have to say anything secret.

I havent used the towels but that is a good idea. If you press gently enough you can avoid the crease. Again I don't crush the can but hand it out with the glass of coke afterwards and had no comback. All in all a good trick certainly 8/10 from me.

Magicguy...

The tips I offer will *HELP* to alleviate the creasing problem, but if you hand the can straight out or get too close, the spectators will see the lines quite clearly.

Thats why I crush the can. It hides the creases AND the 'other' part of the trick, which is quite insignificant when the can is crushed.

Patter like "NOW it's empty!!!" work fine, as you toss the resored, emptied and crushed can away.

I'm afraid you'll never fully restore the can, though.

Another tip: Get the can VERY cold before performing. Warm carbonated drinks seem to give their 'fizz' up too quickly, and this will prove useful if you're going to leave it planted for a while before the trick is performed.

You really do have to crush the can it covers most of the comments above and it is a totally natural thing to do - nobody ever questions it; they are always completely stunned by what they have just seen you do!

It looks like crushing the can will solve the problems that I am having because that way it doesn't matter if there are lines or not. In fact, if they don't get to see it until after it is crushed, they might "imagine" that they saw it completely restored. If nobody cares that its crushed... then "a crushing we will go"

The first time i did this i put to bigger dents in and had to phsicaly shake the can. Most of them knew how to heal it but not to seal it,wich when i first saw was the part wich really amazed me :?

OK, I went through a lot of coke this weekend and I found out that it works ALOT better with actual coke cans than with the cheaper knock-off cans. If the dents are not too big, it can actually pop out to look perfect but as soon as the can is then "popped" open, there are little wrinkles that would look bad up close.

I never tried it cold until i read (above) that it might work better and I thought it popped out quicker and with more pressure when it was cold than when it was room temperature.

Has anyone tried it with beer?

time for my tuppencworth again... hehe...
i LOVE this effect.... ok it cant be done totally off the cuff but the results are astounding... a little tip would be to hold the can from the bottom rather than the top.. this way it shows the effect more

This trick was one of the first tricks i ever bought. And i admit it was probably a mistake getting it with out any real knowledge about magic.
This one has embarrased me a few times aswell.

THEN JUST BUY IT... and stop wasting space with your ridiculous 1-line postings.

I bought this and was slightly dissapionted with it. As some of you have said, it's a messy trick and perhaps not as good as adverts will have you believe. But I suppose in the right situations and done smoothly it will be a total mindblower.

It's a good effect under the right circumstances.

And the right circumstances have to be 'arranged' well in advance so it all looks spontaneous. The Summer season of BBQs coupled with lots of alcohol ought to have given a few opporunitites to suddenly heal & seal an empty can or two!
