it finally arrived... with shaking fingers i hastily opened the 5 inch square steel lined box, threw away the US newspaper and unearthed the one and only DADDY OF ALL MAGNETS!!! 2x2x1/2 of pure Neo rare earth power. The skies darkened, the sounds of the four riders of the apocalypse could just be heard over the screaming of the gales, milk soured in its cartons and babies burst into tears at his passing... the mog strode manfully through it all... a look of grim determination on his weatherbeaten(but incredibly handsome ) visage... could death and destruction be far behind???

okok i love melodrama... heh heh heh

as i said i recieved it yesterday and ive had a bit of a play with it... and i must admit it is awesome

can obviously do all the things in the previous post but from further away and have just gimmicked a chicken bone for that voodoo feeling... heh heh heh and every time i got near a compass at work (from about 3 feet) the needle followed me.. which freaked out a few people
and have also recieved a couple of shimmed cards so im REALLY gonna have fun with those

all in all, a DEFINITE good buy!

It is identical in size, and if they are both made in the same way to the same standard, which I assume they will be as they will both be industrial surplus then they should be identical magnetically wise too.

neodymium magnets @ KJ Magnetics

Postby chdavisjr » Mar 8th, '05, 23:08

I just happened upon this thread, and know it has been a while, but I just ordered but not received a 2 X 2 X 1/2inch neodymium magnet here
http://www.kjmagnetics.com/proddetail.a ... Y08&cat=11
There are some strong warnings about these magnets, and they can be very dangerous to one's health, so handle with care! Got it for US $31 - one reason the M5 is so expensive!

A direct quote from this above web:
BY0Y08
2" x 2" x 1/2" thick
Grade N48 - Nickel Plated
Magnetized thru thickness
Incredibly strong and incredibly dangerous if mishandled. One of these blocks has a pull force of over 100 lbs if attached to a steel plate.
These are the equivalent of a magician's M5 magnet.
