New Show is seeking amateur magicians

Postby Hannahw » Aug 7th, '06, 11:27

Hi there,

The Sky One Show, Christian O'Connell's Sunday Service is very excited to have both Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee on the show this Wednesday.

In their honour we are going to stage a small item where three magicians will get the chance to show off some simple tricks in the studio.

If this is something you may be interested in taking part in we would love to hear from you.

Contact us on sundayservice@radartv.co.uk

Thanks!

Sounds like a right tw*t. I suspect that the three amateur magicians performing simple tricks would be used as comedy, to be laughed at, not as a platform to publicise their acts. Hence the direct search for amateurs (hopefuls, in other words) and not just calling an agent.

I know I sound twisted and cynical, but that's how I am when it comes to gift horses.

If PD and Debbie are on the show then that ought to mean a certain amount of credibility but why have three amateurs as well? I've never seen the show and until now I've never heard of the host but I'm getting a very worrying feeling about all this....

It would seem that getting in three amateurs might be a way to poke fun...But Paul Daniels is such a personable guy. Do you think he'd stand for using struggling beginners for sport? I can't imagine that of Mr. Daniels - I just don't get that kind of "vibe" from him.

Whenever I see requests such as the one above, I am always a bit skeptical about what these promoters are after. Anyone who looks into this, or applies for the position, watch yourself very closely. You never know exactly what they're after...

Mike.

Here's a review of the show from The Radio Times:

"Award-winning DJ Christian O'Connell presents a blend of comedy, celebrity chat and audience participation. Features include the Sunday Confessional, with audience members owning up to their sins and secret pleasures, Britain's Ugliest Pet, and a reading from the week's 'bible'."

Get involved if you want, and use it to break your career, but if you discover you're just there to be laughed at, don't say I didn't warn you.

Item on Teletext today said that this programme was becoming a bit of a headache. Average viewing figures over the last 4 weeks are just 75,000 which is 200,000 down on the normal figure for that timeslot. Sky say they still have confidence that the viewing figures will improve. They don't need magicians, they need miracle workers!
