Laptop help please? no left clicky button

Postby Lawrence » Aug 18th, '06, 10:30

that's pretty much it, the left clicky selecty button on my laptop has stopped working completly, and plugging a mouse into it doesn't help the matter. i believe it's permenantly stuck down or something, i had some trouble last week with it also selecting everything it ran across.
i can't seem to find a "disable touchpad" button, which is really all i need. anyone know how i can solve this problem without taking it into PC World?
(not having this button is making internet navigation a touch slower! but I'm getting there)

Laptops break very easlly. I go through one every 14 months. This one has already flipped off a keytop and I've only had it since January. My last one has no down cursor action!

Does your touchpad still work or is left clicking completely goosed?

the touchpad moves the cursor around fine, although I'm not using it now through fear of it messing everything up!
neither of the clicky buttons do a thing, no matter how much i shout at them. so i've plugged Mr Mouse into the back, but only the right clicky button will work on him.
this laptop is about 3 years old though, at least! i keep saying they (my parents) need a new one! maybe if i don't tell them how to work it without clicky buttons then they will just have to get a new one.
all will be good again when i get back home and i can use my own laptop again!

Sonds like it's knackered. If the touchpad still works, I'd use that for left clicking duties and work on the parontals for a new one.

ah, no, can't do ANY left clicking! nothing will do a left click. I'm having to do everything with menus!

Plug a USB mouse in, and sod the keypad/trackpad. They're cumbersome anyway.

You should be able to disable the trackpad in the BIOS. Look for a setting along the lines of 'Input device' and change it from the trackpad setting to PS/2 or USB.

This should allow you to plug a mouse in no problem.

Hope this helps,
