Shuffling Cards

Postby illusionize » Sep 17th, '06, 08:18

Hi,

As you could probably see from my introductions thread, I am a beginner in magic. Now I have been watching a lot of videos over the past week and one thing I noticed in all of the videos was the superb way in which they could shuffle the cards.

So I attempted to shuffle them, I am not as good as you guys, but I make every effort I can :)

I have tried doing the Riffle Shuffle with the cascade ending, now the riffling (if that is what it is called) is pretty easy, albeit I am a little sloppy I can work on that, I am having some trouble with the cascade.

In the guide I am using it says to use your thumbs on the top of the cards and then your forefingers on the bottom, then slowly loosen the pressure of your thumbs and they will just slide down.

I have tried doing that and it is not working for me, I have recorded a small video for you (man I am getting into this video thing :))

Ok, I feel like the biggest idiot now

I said that my first riffle of the cards was sloppy, well that is why it was not working :(

Man I feel like an idiot, I was not going slow enough and as a result it was just shuffling chunks of the cards, instead of 1 or 2 from each pile after eachother.

After I slowed it down (thankyou to Jerome Burnet's movie of course :)) it worked a charm

OH, thank you very much, I feel flattered!!!
If you move your hands apart really slightly, that will trigger the cascade.
Just practice it, and then, when you'll get the riffle right, you can do it a lot faster!

Thanks again for the lovely compliment. I am flattered. :D :D

I love your work Jerome, watching that pen one was awesome. I think I worked it out, but it is still beautiful to watch

Keep it up, record another when you get time :)

Have you tried riffling on a table before cascading? I think a big problem woth your cascading is that the cards were not interwived enough (if thats a word). But riffling on a table makes it much easier.

It wasn't that bad. And good luck with your practacing.

Joe.
