how would you say this changes when working in a bar? I dont go up to people on the street to show them something.. however..similar to restaurant work.. I go up to people in Bars, and introduce myself and say something like "Hey guys, sorry to interrupt but I'm here on behalf of the management to perform for you guys this evening, would you mind if I showed you something interesting?"...this usually gets a "yeh alright2 response.... this is obviously after a bit of spectator selection..pick those who look releaxed, who dont look like theyre too deep in conversation...groups having a bit of relaxed fun are usually best I would say :)...Performed last week in a weatherspoons and the girls wanted to buy me and my magical partner a drink afterwards..... politley declined but what if I had stayed :P..What a tip ;P x

Hahaha, oh wow- I wrote this 4 years ago, MAN have I learned a lot.

Well, I have drifted away from this so called "blaining" and I am now a beginning busker here in San Diego! I have learned a lot from performers like Jimmy Talksalot and other local buskers here in San Diego.

My performance style, experience, and how much $$$ I make has changed so much since I wrote this little essay, hahaha. (By the way...style, experience and $$$ have gotten better)

hehe, we can scrap this piece of c*** (not the best) essay. It was fun to read it again though- totally for got I wrote this :D

Bar work can be quite challenging depending on the sort of effects you do and the type of clientele you're working for. In a loud bar, you need stuff that is very visual and might not require a lot of patter.

I know this sounds obvious(!) but it pays to scope out the proposed venue before hand.... and I don't mean a visit on a quiet weekday lunchtime. If you've been booked to perform walkaround on a weekend, try and get there on a previous weekend to see what sort of environment it is. Trust me.... I've fallen foul of this myself (once bitten and all that!).

Aside from that, I agree with eveningzoo - a bit of spectator selection and a great evening can be had by all.
