Just found out (from Napoleans Book of Fate no less) that Madame Lenormand, who the cards are of course named after, was Napoleans private "seer" and predicted his defeat at Waterloo and his exile. The emperor was none too happy at these predictions and ordered her arrest. Apparently she then did some kind of levitation stunt that really freaked old Bony out, and he had her released.
Let me tell you, if these cards are good enough for her they're good enough for me!
