Best trick??

Postby Bumacus » Nov 16th, '06, 17:42

Maybe this has been has been covered before, sorry if it has.

Just wondering what the best killer trick is? Willing to spend alot of money if needed for that show stopper. Close-up magic preferably. Any links to sites will be a help also.

In my opion....for close up, the best value for the money is hands down ID!

Usually the most simple effects are those with the most impact. I agree that the ID is a stunner and it should be in every magicians toolkit.

One of my personal favourites is Twisted Sisters.

Best value for money for me is a swami. Loads of possibilities, very simple.

For ease of use, practicality, and great results you can't go wrong with an Outlaw Wallet.

Here's a routine used by a friend of mine. He won't mind me sharing it...

Take a business card out your wallet and start writing, get people to suggest films and ask them to rate them percentage-wise. Or compile a shopping list and have the specs call out the quantities and prices. The possibities are near endless. Once the list is compiled hand over the card so that the details can be checked.

Then tell your audience that you have already predicted the outcome ahead of time. Open up the wallet and pull out a small brown pay envelope. Open the sealed envelope and remove the business card from inside. Hand it to a spec and then sit back and watch their reactions with glee as they discover all the prices, quanties and even items on the list, just this minute chosen by them, are on the prediction card.

This presentation kills.

"Order this world" or "Out of this world"

I do order this world and it's a fantastic mentalism act. Gets them every time! :D Also, Ambitious Card Routine.

There is no true best effect. Its mostly in the presentation.
And it changes from person to person due to opinions and what works best for them. So there is no deffinate answer.

I totally agree with you David, In a performance the other day.. I focused really hard, to get a high impact from a simple trick.. And I got the good reactions because I really took the time for patter and stuff..
but after that I did a very hard and more expensive trick..
and I just sat back.. and let the effect do all the work.. but I didnt get reactions like with the simple trick..

I completely agree as well. However, the best effects are the ones that you spend the most on. The most time that is. There are exceptions to the rule of course - ID springs to mind although even then you should spend time on the presentation. A particular favourite of mine is to create a bridge above a chosen card, and have a spec cut straight to it - completely freely - the reactions I've had have been amazing.

No question about it......but that is why I put "In my opionion..." as it is fair for me to answer in regards to the what I feel the best overall effect is.......I find it to be one of the most universally usable effects, in a great number of settings, and is a real stunner!....but like I said, in my opinion

Gotta agree with both of these and another one I'd like to add is the Biddle trick - gets good reactions every time (if performed properly  ).

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??
