By the time I finished, I was managing to get 1 perfect faro taking about 2 minutes, off the table by 'cheating'.

A perfect tabled faro is even harder!

Thanks for all the responses!

It's clear that the Faro shuffle is no easy trick. I must admit that even splitting the deck in exactly two greatly impresses me.

However I think we've found our magician (yes, from this forum) so thanks again and good luck with the cards!

The lectures begin broadcasts on Christmas Day at 7:15 on Channel 5, then every day for the next four days. The lecture about chance and randomness comes on the 27 December; I hope you will all choose to watch it!

Best wishes,

Tim

Channel 5? That's a change isn't it?

Hmmm...I happen to know a certain pro was given a pointer to this thread. I wonder...

Whoever it is obviously wants to keep it close to their chest for now. I know who I hope it is.

Yes. If you're not splitting 26/26 then they aren't ever going to go back into order...

Of course an out faro shuffle that returns the deck to it's initial state after 8 iterations and not an in faro.

Removes cards from chest....

It is a privilege to be given this opportunity, and I was dubious as to whether I would be up to the task, but after a couple of hours refreshing myself with the shuffle I decided to time myself doing 8. I got it down between 2:20 and 3:15 over about 7 or 8 sets of 8. Thankfully this was good enough for Tim. I would be lying if I didn't say I was very nervous about the prospect and hope that I don't succumb to any such anxiety on tv!! I foresee a lot of practice.... Any advice would be very much appreciated!

yep - well done there!

look, if you can handle 8 faros, i reckon tv would be a doddle in comparision...pretend you're performing as normal...

hope it goes well for you... :D
