Sam, you should not have went to install windows.

When you get to the point where it asks you if you would like to go to the repair console, thats exactly what you do. Once there you will be asked for a password, ignore this and press enter. You then will be presented with a command prompt at which you enter 'format c:'. this will completely wipe your computer and load a fresh version of windows.

Shame I just read this, but if everything is fixed ok....cool. Although I suspect that you didn't really need to delete that partition as you probably would have lost all of your stuff from the hard drive)

I'm one of those sad IT support analysts that you swear...erm, speak to when you have a problem with your pooter, although I work for a huge US bank in London, so I actually do know a thing or two about these evil machines.

Only problem i have now is getting my sound to work psymerty, any ideas?

Probably just a driver for your sound card needed

Any ideas where i can get that Not to sure what sound card this thing has in it, but its not recognising the speakers as being plugged in either

Start/control panel/sound and audio devices...check the default device, probably onboard sound card if its a laptop, see what options you have in the dropdown box.. check that the volume is up etc etc....

If you got a recovery disc with your computer it should have the drivers on it. If you go to control panel, performance and maintenance, system, click the hardware tab then click on device manager. At the top of this window will be an icon to 'scan for hardware changes' click on this and the computer will find anything that does not have a driver. It will then look for the driver, this is when you should insert your recovery disc ( making sure you stop it from starting to recover your system ), you can then direct the computers search ,via the browse button, to the disc you just inserted. The computer should now pick up the driver from the disc
