If it's a blue screen of death (or windows in general...) then just hit it with a hammer. That should solve it :D

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

*shudders*bsod .
If its that damn 'scanning' thing at the beginning of EVERY start up then my bro seems to have that aswell. Check your local newspapers for a local IT man, i've got this guy who lives just around the corner who helps out alot.

Sam, I emailed what you said to Dave and he's just come back and said that it sounds like the disk or the power supply could be on the way out, the disk is the main suspect.

The intelppm.sys file is a windows system driver.
You should be able to get it from your laptop, its in

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers

Once you have it on a floppy or a usb pen drive ( copy and paste it not cut and paste, or you will have two broken computers ), stick it in when you are asked for the disc conyaining the file.

That file could be what caused your crash in the first place

The only partitioning I've ever done was with my iPod when I was hacking it. I'll search around the internet though and try to help, but can you tell me the name of the partitions and what exactly happens? [Like you put a disk in to reinstall windows and it comes up with an error ect]

Ok, I'll be as detailed as possible. Ok to begin with my machine is a fujitsu siemens Scaleo P.

1. Ok so to begin withthere is no windows cdwith this computer. All i got was a recovery cd which you enter to wipe the computer clean with the windows code being on a little window sticker on the top of the tower.

2. With the recovery disk in i turn the computer on. From here it loads up and a message appears saying "Press any key to boot from the CD" so i press return. From here a blue screen appears with "Windows Setup" at the top and begins to load with the meeasge "Setup is loading Files".

3. Once that has loaded some new options appear. "To set up windows press ENTER", To repair windows xp installation using recovery console press r". From here i press ENTER and again it loads for a short while.

4. I then get a screen with the windows user liscense agreement to which i agree to by pressing f8.Once again it loads

5. (Now the problem is here) A new screen appears with the following-
The following list shows the existing partitions and unpartitioned space on this computer.

Use the UP and DOWN arrow keys to selecet an item in the list.

To set up windows Xp on the selected item press ENTER

To create a partition in the unpartitioned space, press c

To Delete the selected partition, Press D.

152626 MB Disk 0 aT Id 0 on bus 0 on atapi [MBR]

C: Partition1 [NTFS] 152617 (1114502 MB free)
Unpartitioned Space 8MB

Then there are three of the same messages below each other

Unknown Disk

<There is no disk in this drive>

So thats it. I hope thats hekped you to help me :? I'm just not sure where to go or what to do from here. Keeping in mind all i would like is a computer that functions like new with everything wiped and everything fully functioning (Minus any hardware that would need to be installed manually such as printers ect.)

The best advice I can offer as a Mac person is to search online for a Windows boot disc which matches your system.

Download, make a floppy.

Then boot from it, and in conjunction with your Windows installer CD, you should find it a simple task.

Partitions hold nowt if you don't want them to!

Usually, on sites which have boot discs available, there's a runthrough of how to get the thing sorted... I would start here:
http://www.bootdisk.com/

It's pretty straightforward, but be sure to keep an eye on third party hardware drivers—you may need to dig out your discs that came with the computer, as there's normall a bunch of third party hardware such as graphics and soundcards which the Windows install disc won't cover properly.

I've done this procedure a few times when upgrading systems to bigger HDs etc., and never had a problem.

Try that one first, if the disc can repair the troubles you had then fine job done.
If that fails then start again remembering that if you do this you wipe everything that was on the harddisc so you won't be able to back up any files you had.

5. (Now the problem is here) A new screen appears with the following-

To set up windows Xp on the selected item press ENTER

To create a partition in the unpartitioned space, press c

To Delete the selected partition, Press D.

Pressing D will format the drive... which would be the better option if you really want a fresh install, once its finished formatting it should ask you to create a new partition by pressing c like before which you will now be able to do cause the disc will now be totally empty.
You can then install a fresh windows installation onto the new partition.

Good Luck

So press d and delete the information that is already there for the new windows installation

Bit the bullet and went for it. Reformatting as we speak, will be sure to let you guys know how it goes
