i have a meeting with a very very pro magician what to do!!?

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

if i were to go round a well known pro's house, i would feel inclinded to perform my own stuff rather than anything else...mixed in with some "classics"...you're own version of OOTW for example...

i would say, the most important thing is to display your character and patter more than anything else though - and to think of a way of linking each effect so they flow better from one another, rather than start - stop, start -stop...

I would imagine the best thing to do is just be yourself for better or worse.

Thats about it right there!

Don't be concerned with showing 100% unique material......virtually everyone starts out (and many stay) using completely purchased effects...no shame in that.

i have a good routine i've been working on the whole day. and im going to be myself and i honestly think it doesn't matter if you show an easy trick or a face melting one as long as you sell the effect to who ever it is your showing. i am doing a mixture of effects from paul gordon to darwin ortiz. by the way i love the magician joke, that was funny. i have got some pretty corny jokes i'll more than likely use, as its poking fun at myself. will let eveyone know how it goes. i am meeting him advice and to see what level he thinks im at :) looking forward to the challenge, and by the way its not derren unfortunately

I think it much more important that you get along with him as a person.
Trying to show off, might not lead anywhere. I suggest that you simply go for some material to which you already have added your own personal touch.

Maybe you stick to effect you are confortable with, and then discuss (separately) various moves etc. In general it is always good if there is at least ONE (useful) move where you are world expert! This will always bring you in a confortable situation where other magicians (also the top professionals) can learn from you!

Anyway, I suggest you do NOT try to impress him, but rather try to make him enjoy your magic as well as your company!

Eugine Burger has a chapter in his book "the performance of Close up magic", that concerns performing magic for other magicians. Eugine has many nice insights, and his conclusion is that:

"the real secret to performing magic successfully for other magicians is to treat them exactly as you would if they were laymen. This means quite simply, don't do anything differently than you usually do. Pretend, in fact that they know absolutely nothing about magic, and that you are the magician who is going to share something most wondeful with them".

Magic is slight of mind!
