I can, unfortunately, only have three time-consuming hobbies at one go and fishing isn't one of them. I used to, but not anymore.

Also, I think the morals of fishing are debateable and, unless you are fishing in order to catch food, it's somewhat trivial and unnecessary.
I am, however, not a vegetarian so I'm probably not the best to comment on the matter.

It is intrested you say that as i am a vegetarien. All fish i catch are returned and conditioned ensuring that the whole experience of being caught is as pain free as possible for the fish. It has been proven in various studies that the fish don't actually feel any pain when hooked, but only try to swim away when they feel they are being pulled. Some people do bully fish out with force which is very wrong but aslong as everything is carried out properly and the fish get returned safely i don't see any problem with it. I fish in matches for money where that the biggest weight wins hoping to become one of the best juniors in the country depending on this seasons match reults.

As for Markdini's question you can start fishing with a rod, some line and a hook. That is just the very basics. I personally fish with a 16 metre carbon pole costing around £1200 which allows accurate baiting and positioning. Again this just makes fishing easier, doesn't make you catch any more fish. Bait isn't a problem as fisah will eat things such as bread, baked beans and even cheese

Hope that helped

Sam

Explain to the bloke you're just starting, how much you got to spend and he'll sort you out.

I love fishing !
Whether it's underwater (freediving spearfishing) or saltwater fishing or lake fishing (pikes are my favourite). You name it. The problem is that I don't have enough free time like I used too. But still whenever I have the chance I go fishing.

From my last fishing trip in Denmark (my shoe size is EU 47, UK 13 I think) :

Last big fish i caught was a 12lb Mirror carp which put up one hell of a fight as iwas on very light tackle. Took 45 minutes to net the fish once it was hooked.

There's nothing better than a carp drill on light tackle. Well done !

I used to go fishing with my dad back in the day, but i dont any more. Usually just went to a pond on farmland. Caught my biggest ever fish there too! Was about 7lb and put up a huge fight! I was only about 11 at the time!

Also have been sea fishing off the North-west coast of Wales! I would definitely do that again! Catching fresh Mackeral (sp?) and keeping it for lunch! Never had any better tasting fish than that in my life, and im a big fan of fish!

I was born with Multiple Personality Disorder. Luckily, they are all me, they just dont always get along...
