Oh, and Freddie, your new avatar reminds me of the stealth assasin dude from Command & Conquer: Zero hour!

Thanks :D
That man is the legendary FRANK ZAPPA, possibly the weirdest choice of music to accompany a magic routine, more fool me!

I know what you mean about having an eclectic taste in music, very expensive and with over 2000 CD's I'm never short of something to listen to. Add my obsessions with magic and British comedy to the mix, I think being a crackhead would be cheaper!!! :D

I'm trying to find some good tracks for my magic to music routine I'm putting together.

What I'm looking for is some decent length instrumental ska type tacks, some Madness tracks work well but tend to be quite short. This isn't really a sort of music that I know much about so was wondering if any of you guys have any suggestions?

Thanks :D

You could have something like the Eye Of The Tiger Lyrics the back ground music or with him singing
would that work I am new to all this stuff .

"Thanx Dub" by SUBLIME, is an amazing, quite long instrumental, thats what i'd go for.

For cheesy pseudo-mysticism, you can't beat performing to Jean Michel Jarre's'Oxygene'.

That's just pure cliché and you know it.

Oh it is. Kitsch is my forte, you know.
'Magic Fly' by Space is another good one. Not the one hit indie band Space, but the astronaut look-alikes from the 1970's.
I'm trying to think of a routine that would work to a Chas 'n' Dave medley. Other than producing 'Rabbits'....

Chas'n'Dave are underrated.

Perhaps the following songs could be added to routines:

1. Ain't no pleasing you: the ultimate heckler retort

2. Breathless: Houdini's water escape

3. Somebody stole my girl (and cut her in half)

4. I wonder in who's arms(or hands): played whilst performing Oberon's Oddball

If you scratch the surface, there's a Chas and Dave fan lurking inside most people!
The music of the gods.
For a rapid costume change, you could have a line of female assistants whose outfits you change into that of a pearly queen....to 'London Girls'! :D

Cockney magic.... now, there's a concept!

Thanks for the ideas everyone, I'll check out the Trojan sets, sound like they might be worth looking into.

Oh, Chas n Dave now that could work really well...

pcwells wrote:Never heard them, but the Skatalites came up on a Google search, and it might be of interest to you, as they do instrumental ska versions of popular songs. So it all sounds low-com-denom, but if it's the attitude and beat you're looking for, it could be worth checking out.

The Skatalites are cool. I would also try Ghost Town by The Specials as there is an extended version with a fabulous trombone solo. ASlso, the Selector, Bad Manners, and a compilation of Jamaican stuff called Jamdown.

Oh yes, and the new 'dubstop' music is pretty cool.

...just thought, why not use fools gold, the 12" version? a whole side of instrumentation...

dont forget, most old soul had a vocals side, and a instrumental side...

i've had a one point,a few thousand albums, psychedelia, blues, funk, soul, prog, rythmn n blues and all the bits inbetween...i ran out of room! it was heartbreaking to sell some of them...

and i was the same with 7"s too...im king of the hammond organ...i was absolutely obsessed for a while...

though they're short, try "grow yer own" and "almost grown" by Small Faces (note no The - a common mistake)...dare you not to want to dance...
