In one of Michael Ammar's money magic videos, he shows how to obtain multiple bills with duplicate serial numbers--and no, it doesn't involve an ink-jet printer. I'm not sure about British currency, but with American bills you can obtain a few sequentially-numbered bills from the bank and erase the last digit from all of them... It's not like anyone will notice the discrepancy; I couldn't tell you how many numbers are there if my life depended on it, and I'm sure no spec will be so astute, either.
Duplicate bills in mind, you should be able to fill in the blanks. I'm not saying this is THE way the trick is performed--it's just ONE of the means to achieve the same end result.
