Stevebo's post made me think of some other tips that I've picked up over the past couple years. One thing that I found most useful is a bit of advice that Cellini passed down to another magician I know--to stop relying on a mirror to practice.
As magicians, we know when the sleight is going to take place (I hope). Many magi that I know (myself included) have developed the awful habit of blinking every time they perform a sleight. The reason, I suppose, is that they don't want to see the sleight exposed and they close their eyes. Don't take this as solid psychological evidence--just an observation I've had.
For that reason, I practice in with a camera or in front of a live audience whenever I can. Recording yourself is exceptionally helpful because it puts you in an audience member's shoes. I think every magician should have a close friend that can film him/her as well as offer constructive feedback.
Ciao,
