Trick to Buy

Postby kingjeux » Mar 30th, '07, 00:34

I've got some money and have been interested in purchasing a trick. Some I have been looking at are:

Scorpion Kit
Rainmaker
Electric Touch
and Mostly recently Real Man's Wallet by Steve Draun*

What would you guys recommend?

*Can this wallet be used as the kind that a fire erupts from when you open it up?

I do card tricks mostly, just for friends and at parties. I've jsut started recently, but I've been getting quite the reactions, so it's something I might want to continue with because I loved magic as a kid. I started with some Bob Longe books (lol!) and then gave it up, but now have gotten into it more seriously.

And I live in Ontario :D

it realy depends on what type of magic your going to do by what youv,e sugested your seem to be going into metaphysical or elemental change types of effects which will probably lead you into stage work.

you seem to have also picked the more expensive products which require a lot of presentational skills for them to pay for themselves so if you have deep pockets and want to go down that route then electric touch and scorpion are the way to go first, you may also consider bang on for a wallet effect as well as a firewallet, which you should always by as a stand alone item due to the mechanics and always watch the demo videos they will tell you a lot about what to expect from it.

ps just read your post but i stand by my sugestions as they link well for cardwork.

haha that's true eh? those tricks just were some extravagent one's that caught my eye. just some ones to add in every now and then to really wow! them.

My question about the Real Man's Wallet stills stands though.. I've heard great reviews about it, but I'd like to know if it is (or can be?) the flaming kind, Kaps I believe, as I have no experience with them. I don't want an assortment of Magical Wallets, preferable just one that
a) is my everyday wallet
b) has a loading slot for C2W
c) can start on fire when opened

Does the Real Man's Wallet suit this criteria?

hmm, then without exposing I guess, what makes a fire wallet so special that the Real Man's Wallet can't do?

from what you've said then, i'd view all of those products you mentioned as one or two trick ponies...and quite pricey...

you could sort yourself out some nice books and dvds for that money fella...

sure, they're all visual and instant, but...well, what you going to be doing after that? i'd recommend none, i know thats boring, but none...nada..zip..zilch...but books, read, enjoy, create and save some money for buying nice women drinks...

why thank you, Abraxus. Mine'll be a vodka and coke please :D

Abraxus is right, saving some money and buying the books is a much better idea than the one off tricks. Royal Road if you've not already got it is brilliant for cards and (I don't think I'm mentioned it for at least a week) Mark Wilson's Complete Course covers all sorts of different areas and is well worth the money.

What you'll learn in those books will give you a brilliant grounding to start creating your own effects and routines.

Abraxus is right...he always is, he's my favourite TM member too, so I'm going to send him £500 as a thank-you next week ...

that's how i heard it anyway...

yeah, books and the occasional dvd will provide you will more magic and skills....go for them...not those pricey gimmicks...

I'd recommend buying props, not tricks.

I second the RRTCM, the dvd set (R. Paul Wilson) if you don't already have it. I was out of magic for about 8 years and just starting the bug again. I had the CUPS for packet tricks at one point but now just going for the sleights. I figured I might as well just learn to do the magic by skill. :D I'm working on disc 1 and some misc. stuff right now.

Good luck!

I had/have tons of Bob Longe stuff......thought it was the greatest stuff around, changed my mind as I began to look further and advance, and have now come full circle to realize that his stuff still has room in my routines....only I have changed the presentation to suit my style, and with the use of some convincers, false shuffles, etc....never lose touch with his stuff, some of it is very good and convincing, albeit elementary, but the spec doesn't now that....

Where in Ontario? I have been out East numerous times....a buddy of mine used to play hockey for the London Knights and then the Western Mustangs....I would come out and spend 7-10 days with him each spring.
