Derren Brown: Messiah
10pm on Wednesday 29th March (1 hour) on E4 (+ repeats)
"The psychological illusionist hosts a special programme, challenging belief systems and our capacity not to question them. In particular, he promises to test the tendency for people to accept directions from someone in authority."
Justin Lee Collins is The Convention Crasher. In the first episode of a new three-part series, funny man Justin Lee Collins crashes a magic convention in Canton, Ohio. He has just four weeks to transform himself into a master illusionist, good enough to compete against the magicians in the convention's "Battle of the Magicians" competition. Can Justin pull off Houdini's classic 'Metamorphosis' in front of an audience of professional magicians, or will he end up all in a flap? The Convention Crasher 10pm on Thursday 17th January on Channel 4. (MagicWeek can reveal that he does get placed!)
Press Release
Derren Brown has a system for winning at the horses. In this one-hour special, the maestro of mind control anonymously tells a single mum from London which horse will win at the next day’s races – again and again – culminating in a final, massive bet.
Investigating the psychology behind gambling and using his unique combination of skills to create guaranteed wins, Derren proves his system works every time. Not only that, but he explains it fully to us at home. But how fool-proof is this system and will his participant, believing in him and his predictions, risk her life-savings on one more race?
As Derren reveals: “I took a random member of the public and I told her which horse would win in a certain race; when it did win she was intrigued and I did it again and again and she started to bet more and more money according to my system. She's scraped together every last penny she could find and she is risking it all on one final race. Is it really possible to predict every time which horse will win? Welcome to The System."
Shot on locations including Sandown Park and Newbury race courses, Derren Brown: The System is an Objective production for Channel 4. It is produced by Simon Mills, and directed by Simon Dinsell. Executive producers are Andrew O’Connor, Anthony Owen and Derren Brown.
Derren Brown: Trick or Treat 1/6
10pm on Friday 2nd May (30 minutes) on Channel 4.
Derren Brown's critically acclaimed Trick or Treat returns for a second series, but this time round the game is raised for all involved. As before members of the public make a blind choice of a Trick or Treat card. If they pick "Treat", Derren will use his skills to ensure something pleasant happens to them; if they pick "Trick", the result will be something quite dark.
It's Sure To Be A Treat

Derren Brown - Trick Or Treat Friday, C4, 10pm
Finding out what tricks are up Derren Brown's sleeve is virtually impossible, but we can tell you that this second series of Trick Or Treat will feature a time traveller, alias Dr Who star David Tennant.
Tonight's opener, like last year's first series, features a member of the public who makes a blind choice to choose a Trick or Treat card - the treat means something nice will happen to them, whereas the trick involves something darker.
But later in the series David Tennant takes the leap into the unknown. So how did Derren persuade him to take the risk?
"I met him at a party. He was incredibly charismatic and I really warmed to him. He said he really enjoyed the show, which I always find genuinely surprising and touching.
"We were writing the series at the time and thought it would be fun if one of the participants was well-known. He's still treated the same as any other participant. He's very open and unguarded, which is terrific."
The stunts set up for series two are a closely-guarded secret but, knowing Derren, some will be controversial.
His favourite treat from series one came when he hypnotised and coached an old lady to turn her from a modest bridge player into world-class poker player.
She came second in a big-money tournament.
His most controversial trick featured a young woman set up to believe she was having an out-of-the-body experience as she witnessed her own death in a car crash.
