The roly-poly pass

Postby Surfing Dude » Apr 6th, '07, 20:54

I would just like to ask if anyone incorporate this sleight into some of their routines, as i feel that it doesn't benifit me.
It could be because the pass hasn't perfected for me yet, but i still feel that even when perfected the spectator would still be able to follow their card.

Should I continue practicing, add some patter to that part of the trick during this slight to attract attention or just abandon the sleight from the start?

I use it occasionally......make eye contact and patter throughout, you will never be spotted....it is one of the simplest passes around and often gets underutilized as it seems to "elementarty" but don't under estimate its value!

Right, well i guess there's going to be no harm in using this in a couple of card tricks. Thanks :)

I often follow it up with a false overhand shuffle - one that maintains the top stock - just as a bit of an added convincer.

Yeah this is what i found though, if i would just be easier to ask the spectator to place their card ontop of the deck, but i suppose that could lose some of the effect for the trick, so i may as well just follow your advice and add some patter. Thanks again.

If you are referring to the little known pass in Blackstone's book on card tricks which is known as the "Roly Poly Pass" there is a very interesting and possibly superior variation in Paul Le Paul's book on card magic.

Incidentally this is a great book pass or no pass.
