Raven Or PK Ring?

Postby kingjeux » Apr 28th, '07, 18:24

They seem to do the same sort of thing. I don't know what the raven is tho, and don't like the idea of having to keep it hidden however that works. I like the simple idea of a magnetic ring. But maybe there is something about the raven I haven't been aware of. Anyway, if you were to recommend one which one would it be?

Well on coin vanish, yes they are like the same. But with the PK ring you will explore a new world with magic. The raven is good, for the purpose it is made for, and thats in generally just one thing.
But with the PK ring... Its TT's little brother.

Ok, so what would you guys recommend? I am not that interested in the raven if all it does it exchange one coin for another or something like that. Which one has more uses? What one excited you more when you saw an effect that used it?

Yeah the raven is good I got mine for $25 then sold it to him (totalmagic) it is good but lots of practice! :) Oh and it does more than just change coins.

Well both work with the same idea, but with a Raven you can do quite alot, but there is the setup.

A PK ring can be worn and used all the time, but for a clean vanish you will need some good old sleight of hand.

So my thoughts are get a Raven to start then if you like it, then perhaps look into a PK ring.

Good luck and keep us posted!

I'm not sure why people "rave" about the Raven. The PK ring is great for watch effects (dancing on thin ice here...)

Never used a Raven, but I have a Bat which I like (though it's bulky)
As for PK rings, they're not as strong but useful and I would avoid the Wizard brand ones as they tend to rust really quickly and flake up.

How strong are PK rings? I'm interested in them and may make a purchase soon enough. What's the heaviest item they can hold for example?

My PK ring is not particularly strong and I suppose cannot compare to any other effects of which I'm sure you're familiar..Could be used to "hold" a pen but not more than that.

The advantage of the ring is that it can be worn without arousing suspicion though sometimes when I'm eating at the table I "clink" with the fork !

I think a 2p coin is about the heaviest I've had to hold. They are good for stopping watches, coin in bottle, cups and balls etc and I rig up things like biro lids with little m***ets and do pk effects with a pen.
The power of them is not strong enough to say, penetrate a thick table, which I can do with The Bat strapped to my knee and the Wizard ones are of a pretty shoddy quality.
Although mine has not shattered, a lot of people have said that if you drop it, it will break into pieces. I have an allergy to cheapo metals and it made my finger puff up like a sausage and I'm not the only person to have had this happen, but the inside of the ring is completely rusted and the outer coating is starting to flake off.
I haven't had it that long either. I would look at other makes before you buy as my next PK ring purchase will certainly not be a Wizard one.

Right and which brand would you suggest? Especially looking how long it will last it terms of rust and also strength. I have a lot of ideas in my head for using this ring, needs to be able to hold a 2p coin securely!

It does hold brass coins securely.
I cannot recommend any other makes as I'm yet to try them, but my experience with the Wizard ring started out pleasant and turned to disappointment and anger. A short lasting prop.
I know there is a cheaper neo magnetic ring from www.emagictricks.co.uk but unsure as to it's durability and magnetic strength.

So I saw Next last night where Nick Cage is something of a magician, and one of his 'tricks' is where he turns a large rock (well palm sized) into a small lizard via waving his hands over it much like I've seen in Raven Advertisements. Is this the Raven?

Thinking about it now, could it be the M5 as well?

Seeing as it's a film, it probably not the Raven but Hollywood special effects.

Where can you buy one of them lightsaber thingies?
