THE WORKS (UK ONLY)

Postby dat8962 » May 7th, '07, 15:39

The Works has often been mentionned in a number of TM threads when they've had cheap magic related books on offer. Anyway.....

I picked up a Magic & Mystery Collection DVD box set for a fiver over the weekend and you get 10 features on 5 DVD's.

DVD 1 is David Blaine's 'Street Magic' and Magic Man' which I thought was worth a fiver alone.

The rest of the are a mixture of supernatural and thriller films as well as a few episodes of 'Tales of the Unexpected'.

I'm sure that some of you will be interested in the Blaine disk.

Someone once said on here they had a box set of the Karl Fulves Self Working books in there for a fiver but my local branch only had some kiddy magic book.
Do they rotate their stock or is it different nationwide?

I saw the box set you mentioned. Good for a fiver. I got Blaine's Street Magic DVD for 99p in the now defunct Music Zone!

You're very lucky with the Fulves books! Pretty poor selection down here in the South. Music Zone was bought up by Fopp then closed down two weeks after! Cheaper than the net a lot of the time!
After shopping there I resent paying HMV prices!

i always look in there for these kinds of offers.
i picked up the first 2 issues of the Cage comic, the 100th Marvel Comics Presents and some random daredevil stuff all for about 50p each.
might be worth a little more in a while

You can pick up cheapo tarot decks and things like that sometimes, but any magic related books are very thin on the ground at my local branch.

i actually got my first magic book from the works, for about £2. only taught little things like key cards and a bundle of stuff that didn't really involve any skill.
apart from how to do a backpalm, madness!

I love the Work, quite often pop in there at least once a week to see what they've got. I've managed to find quite a few little gems of books and videos in there for very good prices

The jumbo cards that I saw were a tenner and were made of foam rubber, about A4 is size and were not the usual dimensions that you would get if you scaled up a regular card. They were too thin if you see what I mean. The printed faces were much much smaller than the card itself and there sas far too much plain white surround.

Deffinately not worth it unless you can incorporate them into a comedy routine or something similar. The jumbo mino's looked much more fun
