Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

I also agree with master abraxus. OOOO 4 aces and now look I have told you your grannies maiden name. Having said that You can use cards to do metalistic effects that arent really pick a card routines. Marc Spelman has a couple.

I know master Abraxus dosent like cards in mentalism.

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.

Three and Two Card Monte are pretty good effects that I use reguarly.

And Lady of Mystery, where did you learn Torn and Restored? I'd love to be able to perform that, I saw it for the first time a few weeks ago on Fifty Greatest Magic Tricks on E4 when Guy Hollingworth did it, and I had a look on his website and he says that the secret is in a book that he wrote, but now that book is out of print and costs about £100 or something...

That was a really long sentence.

the 2 card Monte, the one where u put black, red, black, red, black, red, and when u turn the cards over, the 3 blacks ones are together, and the red ones are together, i dont knwo the name. u could do the invisible palm,

LOVE THE AMBITIOUS CARD

u could practice some tricks where u plant the cards on ppl and force it on them type thing., those kick ass.

uh....
im sure ppl already said em, but its all good.

There are a few versions out there, good old Mark Wilson's got a nice one in his book which I use quite a lot.

Daniel Garcia's Torn is popular one at the moment which looks very nice. However I think that Mark Wilson's version is easier to perform and gets just as good reactions.

I knwo it repeating what others have already said, but often, (well, I find this anyways) the best reactions I get are from more simple tricks, such as ambitious aces.

However, to mix up the trick routine from 'pick a card', 'now pick another' I do the following:

*Start with a stacked deck (allows for some GREAT card control / mentalsim style tricks) - even if there is a 'pick a card' trick in it, the mentalism / reading peoples facial features revelation of the card is what they remember most about the trick
*As has been stated, then get the spectator to shuffle the deck (more than 1 spectator if possible) that way the order / stack of the deck is totally undetectable
*Finish with something simple yet (again, my personal oppinions / reactions) mind blowing, like 'the ID' or 'brainwave' deck - I find that letting them shuffle the whole deck first, then do a simple deck switch in your pocket (assuming you have the matching coloured invisible / brainwace deck in your pocket) works great

Hope this helps you :)

That would be a "pick a card" trick.

Las Vegas Leaper by the genius Paul Harris. It's a great cards across routine and actually very simple. Although a spectator counts the cards by himself and holds them in his hands, he gets more and more cards....
you can find it in his books "Art of Astonishment Vol. 1" or on the Michael Ammar Series "Easy to master card Miracles: Vol. 3".

Lady of Mystery wrote:Now one thing I like to do is to run a couple of pick a card type tricks back to back using the same card. One combination I use fairly often is RRTCM's Everywhere and Nowhere followed by a card through hankie and finishing with the card vanishing from the deck and appearing in their bag, pocket, etc...

I pretty much do the same thing. This way it only looks like one pick a card trick. Usually ending with a full deck vanish and soon after a full magician vanish.

I usually don't do pick a card tricks, because of the repetition
of picking and finding a card, that's why I either just do it all
in one trick i.e ambitious card, or just do other tricks instead

I personally love doing any Ace effects, OOTW is really good too. I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned it, but Art of Astonishment has a lot of great non-pick-a-card effects in it. There's my ideas.
