Oversized card case needed

Postby moonbeam » May 8th, '07, 16:11

A standard deck of cards fits nicely into a standard card case, but I've now got 9 gimmicked cards that I like to carry around and it's a bit of a tight squeeze  .
I've resorted to taping the case up, to stop it splitting, but that won't help me fit any more cards in.
Apart from carrying the gimmicked cards separately, are there any oversized card cases available anywhere, that would allow me to carry all my cards comfortably in one box :?:

Any help would be much appreciated  .

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

I think the card collection do expanded cases. At least, I'm sure I remember seeing them.

Not sure myself but if you can't you could always find an envelope about the right size of the case, trim off the flaps and stick it on to the back of the case. Attach an image of the back of an appropriate Bicycle card to it and voila!

A casual flash and it won't be noticed but it's not too hard to keep one side out of view the entire time anyway.

I haven't had that problem with gimmicked cards. How much bigger are they from the regular cards? Would it be possible to trim the edges to make them fit?

It's not about size but quantity - they're the same size, but it's hard to get 61 cards in a regular card box.

I kinda used your idea Cardza  .
I forgot that I usually keep all my old cards and cases. I just trimmed down an old case and taped it to the back.
I now have a card case with 2 compartments - one that holds all of my 52 regular cards and a smaller one that holds up to approx 15 gimmicked cards

cheers m8  .

 Read the post incorrectly. In that case I would suggest finding a different kind of case. Some of them are roomier than others specifically for that reason.

Am looking for something similar myself, for now I have kept the cellophane on a bicycle deck, used any card & slid it under the cellophane & using 3M stuck it to the cellophane.
This makes the back of the case look normal & I can then slip 1 or 2 cards underneath this false back card.
I've also cut the half moon whole slightly bigger which makes it easier for me to pull on the cards.
Done the same for the front of the case as well. This allows me to carry around 4 extras.

Shame can't really use this for s****y cards though.

I've just emailed cards for magic to see if they have any over sized cases, nothing listed on their site but if not guess I will just cannibalize an old case & do what Moonbeam suggested some 7 years ago, blimey time flies eh!

If all this is merely to fit extra cards in the box, why don't you just get rid of a few regular cards you don't use in any routines and replace those with your gimmicks ? Are you performing anything that requires all 52 cards ? Do you use the jokers ?

As for s****y cards - if you want to bring the deck out the box with the s****y card "ready" (on top or bottom and not stuck to anything), here's how I used to do it - I used double sided "stuff" for the cards and stuck a strip (or strips) of the waxy backing on the inside of the box where the "contact points" were. This was done on the side where the flap tucks in. To remove the cards simply open the flap and grip the deck as usual - thumb in the thumb slot, fingers underneath. If you now press the thumb on the cards (pushing them towards the front of the box) and squeeze the sides of the box slightly (which bows the box outwards) the deck, complete with gimmick can be removed cleanly.
While its taken a few lines to explain, it really is very simple and works well - It just looks like you've took the cards out the box.

The above isn't exactly how I used the idea, but works well when the s****y part is in, or near the centre of the card. If your "stuff" is near the corners (which mine was), the following alternate method will prevent the flap from sticking to the card - attach the wax backing to a blank playing card instead, then stick this to the inside of the box - only sticking the bottom half of the card to the box. Cut out the half moon on the card to match the contour of the box. The flap then goes between the card and box and doesn't interfere with the gimmick.

I used to have a card box and a himber wallet set up using this idea.

Why not get rid of some of the regular cards?

Cos I'm not playing with a full deck in life so I do make the effort with magic!!! :D :D

Real reason is I am holding back gimmick cards, so when I empty out my card box it's all regular but it's easy for me to slip in a gimmick-ed card from underneath the cellophane. Just I'd like to be able to add a few more gimmick cards to the box for whenever the occasion may call for it.

I've ordered some bits from Cards4Magic today so hopefully a goody bag will arrive in the morning & I can get all arty & crafty & construct a box to my liking. I have some un-made bicycle cases so I reckon if I don't stick them together quite as flush as one would normally then this will help.
Mind you, then the cellophane won't fit around. Mmm :?:
