How the heck do you train a rabbit?

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

On a serious note. Try an older rabbit rather then a younger one. Also try a dwarf rabbit (they are not smaller, just a little more relaxed for the most part) a lop eared rabbit is usually also a little more domocile. Go to a shelter and rescue one but first take it out of its cage play with it, check the reactions make sure it is not high strung. It is far easier to understand the characteristics of a rabbit and use them to your advantage rather then to train them into a new behaviour.

It is indeed getting more and more difficult to book shows that feature live animals. In quite a few places I understand it is against city ordinances.

And please remember that they are alive and once you take ownership you have a responsibility for that animal it is not a prop. It is living and breathing and understands fear. Be responsible.

Of course the problem with adopting an older rabbit is that if things don't work out they tend to be a little more gamey tasting then a young fresh one.

Check out pages 65 to 67.. Peter the Educated Rabbit.
It will tell you what you want to know.
At the same time check out

Inhave a Rex rabbit that has been taken into schools since she was six weeks of age and will just sit on my hand and let me take her round for the kids to stroke. She would easily let you use her for some trick. Just get a yound rabbit handle it gentley and often, get her use to noise/kids etc and if it settles that's what your Antony if not then it's start again. Insects would be easier- Madagascan hissing cockroaches won't mind a small chick pan as all and people aren't going to see that as cruel as compaired to a
rabbit.

How To train a Rabbit

Incidentally I only have a 'Wabbit'. Used it for years. Never ages, never needs feeding, moves, nibbles and looks so real.
I think Hawkins Baazar stocks them these days. Or Mr. E.

in answer to the question ' how do you get your rabbit to sit still like that' which is similar to 'how do you train a rabbit', i anwser: pleanty of string, blue tack and a little bit of super glue. (with a big smile on my face and a little wink, so they know im only joking!)

If you mistreat your rabbit he'll run away and never be seen again. You know what they say, 'Hare today, gone tomorrow'.... (OK, I know...hat...coat....door...)
