Rob's idea sounds pretty niffty.

I had a thought. Have the image of the phone printed on some flash paper, light it up and ta-da! The phone becomes real :)

How about an apparent oragami routine where you fold blank paper into a convincing phone shape, draw on a few buttons, hand it to a spectator, and then it starts ringing. The spec 'answers' it and holds a conversation with a mysterious stranger who performs a short psychic reading, then you take it back again, crumple it up, and show it's just paper.

Or perhaps not.
