Completely OT, but would you recommend this book over persuasion engineering by Bandler & La Valle?

ToP is a review of the history of persuasion written in the 1960s. It's a fascinating read, but not one that'll teach you how to manipulate minds. It covers everything from the emergence of advertising to political propaganda, so-called "brainwashing" and even religious conversion. A very interesting book indeed, and one I've read countless times. It was a toss up between this one and Orwell's collected essays for me desert island, but I'd be very happy to read to Selina, Carol and Karin from either of an evening while we wait for a ship.

I'm going to have to get out my copy and have a good read, I think. "A Hanging" changed my perception of capital punishment.

I think that was the thing Orwell could do well. Inspire even if you are to the right of his polictal views He could make you challange what you percive in a non violent way say like Micheal Moore.

I find it a great shame that people are "forced" to read 1984 in school for if one went back and read it at there lesuire they would find one of the greatest books ever writtern that along with catch 22.

A great social thinker of our times. With a depth yet simplicity he could appeal to the common man or thoses higher up.
