Hi Bananfish,
I know I've left it really late this year, but I don't suppose you got 'room for a little'un?' One ticket required for whole day please. And what with more postal strikes due, could you save me one and I'll pay on the door? If not, I'm sure we can sort an alternative. (Please)

Hi -

I'm gutted... I can't make it in the day :(. I'm doing a fencing refereeing test think in London. I'll definitely try to come to the gala show though, wouldn't miss it for the world!

That's a shame Kati - it will be the first one you have missed for a while.

Good luck with the fencing thing.

I am pleased to announce that David Forrest has kindly agreed to be our 4th Close-Up Magician on the day.

We had a cancellation at the last minute and David has very kindly offered to fill at very short notice. I just love how helpful to each other magicians are and would publicially like to thank him.

David Forrest is an awesome magcian - but then you guys know that.

(and just out of interst if you listen to BBC Radio Suffolk right now 9:40 tuesday morning) Michael J. Fitch is on the radio performing magic).

Thanks Paul. This will be the first you have missed for three or four years - it is a shame as you are missing our new venue (also Juliana Chen is in the Hotel you normally stay in).

It's going to be a great day - I'd like to thank all of you here who are coming and supporting us. Don't forget to buy loads so the dealers keep coming back. :)

I am looking forward to meeting you all - some for the first time, some old friends from previous years.

Simon

See everyone tommorow.

And as for dealer, I should be at Cards4Magic most of the day. :P

I'm sure the reports will come thick and fast on yesterday's convention, but I just want to say I had a wonderful time. I spent a fair amount of money with the dealers - would have been more but SWMBO was with me.

A huge thank you to the Ipswich Magical Society, especially Simon and Richard, for putting on an awesome day, yet again. It was only my second year, but I can assure you I'll be at the next one.

The convention was excelent!!The lectures were very good especially Juliana Chen's(althought she spoke quite alot about the history of chinese magicians).
The close up sessions were also very entertaining with Michael J. Fitch, who did a very entertaining and very varied routine including an effect where the chosen card was in the pile beneath a BEAR TRAP,needless to say the bear trap grabbed his arm,oh and it was a reall bear trap has he had shown earlier, but he still got the card...i wonder why nobody laughed.
Chris Power was excellent in my opinion because he does things so slowly and still amazes me.(he managed to load a card on a card box without me noticing and i think some of the other magicians in there too)
Mathew J Dowden had a very nice card routine and a very entertaining "costume change" into a redneck and some very nice effects where he would find the chosen cards in various places(including his pants).
Another highlight for me was before the Gala Show started when Juliana Chen went to the bar area and taught her card production technique to some of the people who bought her special cards(which i think are amazing for lots of flourishes and other stuff)
the Gala Show...10 out of 10 we started with Dave Allen(little people, big business)who did one of his routines that had the children laughing out loud as well as the adults with some of his jokes.

Oliver Tabor was a magician who i had not seen before and i must say im very impressed...
He did a routine which countained production of doves and violins(?)where he kept taking bits and bobs out of the violing to produce doves and had a blackboard which said"Oliver Tabor Magician"and later it had changed into"Oliver Tabor Musician"i think very few people caught the change(i didnt). The only bad thing was that he droped a few things here and there but still a real treat to watch.

The Incredible Crisco, was a person which many people had not heard of including me,so i read BananaFish's description on him and he said "if you've seen him, you'll remember him".and i can confirm that that is absolutly true.
He is an outstanding performerwho must have done at least 30 effects(!)with not one single flaw....My question is:is he as old has he looks?

Juliana Chen did a beatiful performance as she always does envolving masks and cards...
She did a few mask changes in the begining,(McBride style)and had a few costume changes which ended in a explosion where she moved on the the cards and did her famous production and shot cards at people(no papercuts, you had to be there).
One particular technique i loved was her fan productions where she would throw the fun in the air and produce another one...Classic.
All in all,a spectacular performance.

Michael J. Fitch was up next and he became Chav(Freaky Magic)
for the evening.
Michael is always good at what he does and this was no exception.
Apart from losing his Chavy way of speaking once or twice nobody cared or didnt notice because his effects were amazing.
They included,a head chopping ilusion and a ring vanish only to appear on a candy box or whatever thats called.

Graham P.Jolley which i tought was gonna be a serious actwas anything but serious...
His effects were simply mind blowing but didnt get a more amazing reaction from the audience because they were laughing so hard!
A very well tought out routine with humour everywhere.Bravo sir.

Rock magic was the last performance on stage and the light show was reeaaly good...smoke flying everywhere, lights filled the stage and the audience and theyr ilusions were realy good.
My personal favourite being where he passed a lit torch thru his arm and also the "new" illusion Genesis, altought i think ive seen that somewhere,or something similar.

Ill be sure not to miss the next one, because the only bad thing in this convention was that i had a little girl sat fefore me which kept kicking me and crying because she was afraid of some performances.
But if the next conventions are anywhere near in quality to this one ill be there for sure.
